Director of Investments Leyline Renewable Capital 807 East Main Street, Durham, NC 27701 Overview The Director of Investments is a senior team member responsible for structuring, negotiating, and managing a portfolio of development-stage loans across renewable energy technologies, with a focus on solar and battery storage. This role will work cross-functionally to guide transactions from initial diligence through closing and will serve as a key external face of the firm with developers, strategic partners, and co-investors. The ideal candidate has a strong attention to detail with a proven track record in middle-market or opportunistic credit, and has a strong understanding of legal documentation, risk, and portfolio construction. Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting & Execution:
Oversee all aspects of the investment process, including financial modeling, commercial due diligence, technical reviews, and credit underwriting. Collaborate with internal and external legal teams to structure and negotiate investment documentation. Drive investment committee preparation and present recommendations with clarity and confidence. Deep experience in covenants, intercreditor terms, and structuring. Manage third-party advisors (legal, technical, insurance, etc.) throughout the due diligence and closing process.
Portfolio Management:
Oversee post-close monitoring of portfolio investments, including ongoing credit reviews, financial performance tracking, and covenant compliance. Partner with internal teams to assess portfolio risk exposure and ensure alignment with return objectives. Interface directly with borrowers and management teams to maintain transparency and manage potential challenges.
Team & Strategy:
Mentor junior investment professionals and contribute to a culture of excellence, curiosity, and collaboration. Support product innovation and capital strategy evolution as the firm explores new asset classes or structures. Contribute to market intelligence, pricing benchmarks, and strategy refinement.
Restructuring & Exits:
Proactively identify underperformance or stress signals and lead workouts, amendments, or restructurings as needed. Develop and execute exit strategies, including refinancing, asset sales, or recapitalizations. Drive value creation through active involvement in business decisions and governance, when appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or related field; MBA, CFA, or other advanced credential preferred. 7-10+ years of experience in private credit, direct lending, fund or related investment roles, with cradle-to-grave transaction leadership. Demonstrated success sourcing and closing complex credit transactions across the capital structure (unitranche, mezzanine, second lien, preferred equity). Strong understanding of credit documentation, structuring, intercreditor issues, and risk mitigation. Driven by attention to detail at all levels of the deal process. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor junior team members and collaborate cross-functionally. Experience in renewable energy or power generation is strongly preferred.
