Human Resources USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app Under the supervision of the Assistant Provost of Contract Administration, the Labor & Employee Relations Manager is responsible for supporting the administration of all collective bargaining agreements within Academic Affairs. The position works as a trusted resource for managers, supervisors and other academic leaders across the University to support their efforts interpreting and enforcing the collective bargaining agreements. The primary goal of the Labor & Employee Relations Manager is to successfully counsel faculty and staff at the earliest stage to proactively reduce grievances and ensure productive relationships.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Manager will have primary responsibility for administering the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the UNH-GEU-UAW, which represents Graduate Employees. In addition, the Manager will collaboratively develop and deliver formal training to managers and supervisors, manage the intake and evaluation of grievances, and evaluate and provide specific guidance regarding appropriate progressive, corrective action for employees. The position reports within the Provost’s office and will provide support to the Graduate School on all aspects of Employee and Labor Relations regarding Graduate Employees and their supervisors. The position is responsible for providing direct support to the Provost Office, colleges and schools within the University of New Hampshire and serves as a point of contact on matters of employee and labor relations for units across the University to ensure operational consistency across Academic Affairs. Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in related area and /or equivalent experience / training. 4-7 years related experience in employee and labor relations or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Well-developed organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations. Highly developed skills associated with conflict resolution. Effective written and oral communication skills including the ability to collaboratively develop and deliver training. Advanced knowledge of employee relations practices and programs, labor/employment law and the principles and techniques of labor negotiations. Excellent interpersonal communication skills to develop and maintain professional relationships within Academic Affairs and across university offices including Finance, General Counsel and Human Resources. Proficient in interpreting collective bargaining agreements and personnel policies as well as having a good working knowledge of other areas of the law such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Possess substantive knowledge of, as well as demonstrated resourcefulness in researching, institutional policies, collective bargaining agreements and procedures. Working knowledge of how a flagship land, sea, and space grant institution functions. The ability to understand procedures as they relate to processing a complaint under each of the collective bargaining agreements. Able to exercise excellent judgment in responding to employee relations-related requests across Academic Affairs. Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively. High degree of emotional intelligence, institutional knowledge and political savvy.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters’ or Advanced degree in business, human resources management or law. Requires knowledge or willingness to learn areas of University operations including human resources (compensation, employee relations, and employee benefits), operations (campus systems) and employee management (workload, promotion and tenure processes, etc.).
