Administrative Job Summary The Clemmer College of Education and Human Development at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) invites applications for the position of Academic Advisor & Recruiter. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Success and Access, we are seeking dedicated and innovative individuals who are passionate about supporting students and making a lasting impact on their academic and career journeys. The Academic Advisor & Recruiter will manage a caseload of undergraduate students, guiding them through orientation, developing personalized graduation plans, setting career goals, sharing university resources, and maintaining student information systems. This position plays a key role in ETSU and Clemmer College’s mission of improving the quality of life in the region and beyond, fostering the next generation of educational and workforce leaders. The successful candidate will create a college recruitment plan and lead the college’s recruitment efforts for prospective students, including first-time freshmen and transfer student. The Academic Advisor & Recruiter will establish strong relationships with local secondary schools and their Teaching as a Profession (TAP) programs, community colleges, and other regional partners. This role involves event planning, designing innovative programming for prospective students, and attending recruitment events, including Open Houses, New Buc Kickoffs, College Fairs, TAP program visits, and other related events. As demand for qualified educators grows, the Academic Advisor & Recruiter will focus on growing enrollment for our education and cross-disciplinary programs and facilitating transfer pathways for students entering the Clemmer College. The role involves significant travel across Tennessee and the southeastern region to represent the College at recruitment events, deliver presentations, participate in fairs, and provide admissions counseling to prospective students. Collaboration with faculty, staff, and campus partners will be essential to success in this position. Occasional overnights and weekends are expected, and other related duties may be assigned. Ability to coordinate and attend recruitment events both on and off campus.
Ability to travel, including overnight and weekends.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
One (1) year of experience working with individuals in a higher education, counseling, teaching, recruiting, or related setting (relevant part-time, student worker/graduate assistance, and/or volunteer experience may be considered).
Must be able to travel as needed, including occasional overnight and weekend commitments
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, psychology, counseling, or related field.
Experience in secondary or higher education settings.
Familiarity with Tennessee education licensure requirements.
Valid driver’s license.
