Assistant Director of Staff Development Maryhaven Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776
Job Summary:
Assistant Director of Staff Development leads the staff development department to ensure all training initiatives align with OPWDD, OMH, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Oversees the strategic use of the Learning Management System (LMS) to monitor compliance, track certification timelines, and produce actionable reports. Responsible for developing, launching, updating, and monitoring new and existing learning opportunities within the LMS. Develops and maintains a comprehensive training calendar, including orientation and ongoing education/development aligned with organizational and regulatory priorities. Remains current on industry trends and evolving standards to ensure training is relevant, forward-thinking, and effective. Fosters a culture of continuous learning that supports staff growth, retention, and the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care.
Responsibilites:
Responsible for the overall oversight of the Staff Development & Education department in absence of Senior Director. Supervises, counsels and evaluates staff that immediately reports to the Assistant Director of Staff Development. Develops and provides and/or arranges for the provision of staff in-service training to meet program certification requirements. Creates and maintains new employee schedule and curriculum. Expands resource of instructors and materials to meet programmatic needs. Generates monthly Orientation/Staff Training schedule. Maintains tracking system to ensure all staff is certified/re-certified in required areas within prescribed time frames. Ensures all staff trainer’s licensing/certification is current. Ensures all training materials are updated as needed. Meets at least annually with Program Administration and Quality Assurance to define and address new training areas as needed. Coordinates the provision of in-service training for new program development and expansions.
Education & Qualifications:
Valid NYS Driver’s License Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalency Minimum 3 years’ experience in the human services field High proficiency with Technology Ability to obtain
AHA & OPWDD
Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP) Instructor Trainer Certificate Strong presentation skills, including verbal and written Supervisory experience preferred Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred Experience in staff training/management preferred
Mental and Physical Demands:
Ability to perform all SCIP-R physical techniques, i.e., physical transfer weight. High energy level, able to perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with day to day activities. Able to solve problems, including the introduction of new concepts, based on past experience, learning and appropriate input. Drive agency vehicles safely, obeying NYS law. Maintain valid NYS driver’s license within agency criteria
