Job Description

OF POSITION

The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who flourishes in developing partnerships and fundraising, who is strategic and who offers significant team leadership experience. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated professional to lead a new team and to help build The Y’s workforce development programs. The position reports to the COO. A highly focused individual and can effectively manage multiple issues and projects simultaneously. They will enjoy mentoring staff, cultivating advocacy partnerships, and demonstrating leadership skills within the community. Responsible for defining and implementing the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid South’s current and future workforce development strategies while building and leading a team to ensure the development and implementation of strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Create & Own the Workforce Development Strategies for the Y Establish, direct, execute, and oversee workforce development strategies, policies, and initiatives to meet organizational objectives across a wide range of programs and services. Develop and oversee the implementation of innovative strategies and opportunities to engage members in the full continuum of services leading to employment outcomes within targeted sectors and based on funding requirements. Identifying outcome-based program management, and contract management may be required. Reporting with required milestone goals for recruitment, education, training, placement and retention, and contract reporting will be required, with team involvement. Work with Employment Services team Develop work plans to test/evaluate strategies and insights to improve and refine ongoing employer engagement efforts for the Department; staff development and supervision including the establishment and growth of a rigorous case management approach and client outcome tracking. Communication Maintain regular communication with all relevant staff on participant progress and engage in case conferencing with individual participants as needed. Negotiate job placement and large hiring pipelines with corporate partners through networking, cold calling, and individual meetings with potential employers. Association Leader As a member of the Leadership Team, collaborate with leaders across the association to strategize, innovate, and develop goals to support the organization’s overall mission. Social Awareness Lead efforts to create a best-in-class social media presence that empowers stakeholders to spread the brand virally. Develop innovative campaigns that increase quality followers and turn them into future consumers. Build on existing and establish new partnerships with community-based organizations (CBOs), Faith Based Organizations (FBOs), corporate partners, small businesses, and educational institutions to enhance participant’s employment and fellowship opportunities within the various business sectors. Inspire Creativity Lead the creation and production of inspiring design, content, and campaigns that build the brand and drive consumer behavior as it relates to building our workforce development department. Philanthropy & Strategic Relationships Build strategic relationships with local, state, philanthropic, and community partners that help to achieve the outcomes. Philanthropy is a large component of this role, which includes all aspects of fundraising, such as, but not limited to grants, government, individuals, and foundations. This position is responsible for raising for the department operations and sustainability. Research & Optimization Understand and interpret research and market dynamics for use in optimizing strategy and/or gaining efficiencies and developing innovative programs to best meet key business, sales, and revenue objectives. Lead & Grow A Strong Team Mentor, motivate, and lead the Workforce development and its day-to-day operations, with continual focus on business objectives and success. Identify talent needs and develop and retain talented employees leading the team to become a high-performing, highly engaged workforce organization. Promote the YMCA Mission Develop strategies to connect current and future donors to the YMCA mission and promote a culture of giving and volunteerism.

PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Identify, develop, and manage partnerships with key stakeholders, such as training partners, community-service staff-based organizations, and employers. Identify and develop opportunities for new projects, including funding opportunities to support the organization’s current and future priorities. Enhance The Y’s mission by being active and visible in the community, working closely with business and industry, community-based organizations, and other interested collaborators, and representing The Y at meetings, conferences and events related to the mission of The Y. Provide leadership, direction, and professional development to a team Ensure team members are clear on roles and responsibilities and have opportunities to engage and grow. Mentor and develop team members using a consistent supportive and collaborative approach. Promote a culture of impact and continuous learning that embeds the organization’s values. Establish and monitor staff performance goals set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct performance reviews.

STRATEGIC PLAN AND ADVOCACY

Lead and oversee Workforce Development meetings. Work with COO and other senior staff to implement the organization’s new strategic plan. Maintain and upkeep accounts, contacts, grant opportunities, and correspondence with funding entities within the Sales platform. Stay informed about emerging issues impacting workforce development within the Mid-South. Has a deep personal and professional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Builds market position by locating, developing, defining, and closing business relationships. Develops negotiating strategies and positions by studying the integration of new ventures with company strategies and local government. Work to implement the YMCA Boys and Young Men of Color (BYMOC) and will be involved in continually advocating for and promoting this program. Closes new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; and integrating contract requirements with business operations as it relates to workforce development. Organizational leadership and management experience ability to motivate others to advance goals, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects or roles in a rapidly evolving environment. Excellent people management skills, ensuring staff sustainably meet goals and objectives and grow professionally. Demonstrated analytical skills, with the ability to analyze large amounts of quantitative data to provide recommendations and solutions

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (or equivalent industry experience). Minimum 5-7 years experience in organizational leadership and/or management experience. Demonstrates analytical skills with the ability to analyze large amounts of quantitative data to provide recommendations and solutions. Experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development, workforce issues and education initiatives. Comfortable with public speaking and meeting facilitation. Experience with grant writing and research. Innovative thinker and creative problem solver with a willingness and proven ability to challenge the status quo.
