Role:
The Development Specialist supports annual fundraising goals through donor communications, fundraising appeals, and project coordination. Responsibilities include maintaining fundraising records, database management, fundraising activities, special events logistics, and providing general support to the Executive Director and Director of Development.
Responsibilities:
Data Analysis & Reporting Serve as in-house donor database expert; develop systems; troubleshoot technical questions. Maintain accurate donor records; update individual records and contact preferences. Enter gifts from various sources; reconcile revenue with the bookkeeper. Track solicitations; maintain financial and database records. Prepare donor segmentation lists and reports. Provide fundraising reports for board meetings and staff. Maintain digital filing systems; administer group emails. Assist with social media and communication projects. Donor Communications & Digital Fundraising Prepare gift acknowledgments and donor letters. Communicate with donors regarding donations and inquiries. Facilitate campaigns; assist in drafting appeal letters. Collaborate with the Communications team and external vendors for mail and email campaigns. Coordinate production and inventory of member recognition materials. Special Events & Projects Coordinate development events focused on members and revenue-generating activities. Assist with post-event follow-up and donor engagement activities. Assist with resident program activities and other tasks as needed.

Responsible for carrying out job responsibilities according to DF’s high standards for timeliness, customer service, accuracy, quality, and cost-effectiveness, and in accordance with the Foundation’s core values. Collaborative but able to work independently.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree, certificate, or equivalent work experience is desirable. Familiarity with donor database software is required; experience with Neon One is preferred. Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel proficiency. Excellent math, communication, proofreading, and writing skills; ability to work in Canva is beneficial. Maintain regular office hours; minimal travel expected. Ability to work in a dynamic environment; professional demeanor; collaborative and engaging personality.
Work Environment:
The position is based in Skokie, IL. Ideal candidates must reside in the greater Chicago area. It is an office-based, quiet work environment.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Standing desk available upon request.
