This position works directly with faculty to improve course design, enhance instructional strategies, and promote student engagement. In addition to leading professional development programming, the Instructional Designer provides ongoing consultation and support to faculty at all stages of course planning and delivery. The position also manages the College’s learning management system (Canvas).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Design, develop, and facilitate faculty development programs focused on instructional design, student-centered course planning, and effective teaching practices. Provide guidance and collaborate with faculty on course design, curriculum alignment, and the development of learning outcomes and assessment strategies to support effective and coherent instructional planning. Coordinate a calendar of workshops, seminars, and faculty cohorts centered on instructional effectiveness, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the thoughtful use of educational technologies. Provide individual and group consultations to support instructional quality across in-person, hybrid, and online formats. Collect and analyze faculty feedback and usage data to evaluate the impact of instructional support services and professional development offerings. Maintain current knowledge of trends in instructional design, engaged learning, and educational technology, and share relevant strategies and resources with faculty. Contribute to institutional projects as assigned, offering expertise in instructional practice, course design, and faculty engagement. Provide administrative oversight for the College’s learning management system (Canvas), including managing settings and coordinating system updates and integrations. Contribute to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., instructional design, higher education, educational technology, curriculum and instruction). Terminal degree in related field preferred. Minimum of five years of experience in higher education, with a focus on instructional design, faculty development, or instructional effectiveness, spanning both undergraduate and graduate instruction. Experience managing or administering a learning management system (preferably Canvas). Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in instructional design and assessment of student learning, with experience supporting both face-to-face and online teaching environments. Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with a record of cross-campus collaboration. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience designing and delivering professional development programming, including leading training sessions for groups of faculty preferred. Understanding of accreditation standards related to instructional quality and student success preferred.
