POSITION SUMMARY

Monitors and provides leadership in the coordination, development, and implementation of local school staff development within the District. Identifies areas for instructional improvement and works with appropriate personnel in intervention strategies and follow-up activities. Possesses the ability to recruit, train, evaluate and certify participants in the Teacher Academy of Preparation and Pedagogy (TAPP) Program. Provides workshops, teaches classes, and supports new teachers and those teachers facing challenges. This position is grant-funded and thereby staffed year-to-year. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Professional Development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides on-site support and monitoring for the implementation of instructional strategies taught in professional learning courses. Observes and conferences with teachers to provide feedback on classroom strategies and improving instruction. Provides support to new and struggling teachers with instructional strategies, model teaching, effective instruction, classroom management, and other areas of concern based on individual teacher and identified school needs. Provides support for Comprehensive Support Improvement (CSI) & Targeted Support Improvement (TSI) and Promise schools. Serves on appropriate District and staff development committees and assists with training local school staff as needed. Teaches classes and workshops at local schools and on-site focused on instructional support needs including effective instruction, classroom management, teacher expectations, differentiation, explicit instruction, model teaching, critical thinking, content support to promote student achievement, classroom management, and other areas as identified that are aligned with compliance with Title II-A. Assists new and struggling teachers by promoting the integration of technology as classroom instructional strategies to promote student engagement in learning. Assists in identifying staff development components for professional development. Works cooperatively and collaboratively with other system-level offices. Conducts action research and participates in ongoing training to remain abreast of current strategies that promote teacher effectiveness. Attends area, state, and national conferences and meetings related to staff development. All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in an educational related field required. Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in public education required. Knowledge of adult learning principles required. Experience teaching adults preferred. Possesses proven record of working well with professional personnel at all levels of public education and within related professional organizations; makes decisions and final recommendations that routinely affect the activities of others. GaPSC Certification at a Level 5 or higher in a core content area required. Valid driver’s license required. Coaching, Teacher Support and Coaching, or Teacher Leadership Endorsement preferred, or must be obtained within the first year of employment. High level of judgment and critical thinking skills; works collaboratively with a supervisor to review and approve executive-level decisions. Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence, and requires decision-making responsibility in discussing issues of importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for interacting and working with various levels of individuals. Requires excellent presentation, written, and verbal skills. Applies technology concepts to improve efficiency and effectiveness of District; must be proficient with computer. Normal school setting. Requires travel to off-site locations and school site visits. Light duty – On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.

NOTE:

This is a grade 28, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a step 8.
