PURPOSE AND ROLE

The primary purpose for the Training Specialist position is to provide, coordinate and promote pertinent mandated training as set forth by regulatory agencies. The Training Specialist position is responsible for managing and tracking regulatory and operations training pertaining to the facility.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Implements and operates in-house programs, practices, and procedures for training refinery personnel on life critical processes. Administers programs to train employees in installation, operation, safety, and/or maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment. May design programs, tests and/or visual aids. Builds class schedules in the learning tool. Coordinates class arrangements, schedules instructors, conducts training classes, and develops criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities. Monitor training personnel records and enters data into the tracking system to ensure that employees have met all company training requirements for company and regulatory compliance. Provides site mandated training as required for regulatory compliance Coordinates and records Emergency Response and Fire Brigade training Coordinates and records Rescue training Performs required reviews and updates on plant procedure training and CBT’s that pertain to regulatory requirements. Makes suggestions for updates. Administer or coordinator all Basic Operator Training (BOT) for new hires. Coordinates and records operational training for new employees Basic Operator Training in the tracking tools Maintain curriculums, lesson plans, demonstration of skills and evaluations for Operations, Transfer & Loading, Laboratory and Maintenance. Coordinate and oversee job specific training and certification for Operations, Transfer & Loading, Laboratory and Maintenance. Deliver training on all life critical safety based subjects including life critical procedures associated with hot work, confined space, lock out tag out. Coordinate training associated with 3rd party services for courses such as Arial Lifts, Fork Trucks and specialized maintenance training. Aids in the delivery and coordination of annual PSM refresher training. Ability to research training materials through government publications, Internet, and outsourcers. Coordinates Health and Safety Audits and Life Critical procedure audits Acts as the primary librarian for the document center documents Any other Site training duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in an industrial related degree program combined with minimum of two years, post-graduate work experience in an industrial setting with relevant experience; or High school diploma or GED required. Five or more years technical or craft experience (hands on) in a refinery or chemical industry with strong expose to operations principles and practices, and have a minimum of one year demonstrated success in a training or team leadership role with progressive responsibility. Willingness to work overtime and to begin work early in the day as needed to accommodate shift schedules. Willingness to work weekends on occasion.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Working knowledge of training and practices in field of specialization Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills Comfortable speaking in front of large groups Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Familiar with different learning styles in order to best prepare required training for employees Exhibits flexibility and ability to work with all levels of the organization Good organizational and multitasking skills required Self-Directed and motivated – Able to work towards specific goals and objectives with limited daily oversight
