Description of Work
Broughton Hospital is currently recruiting for a Staff Development Specialist I position to work in the hospital’s Staff Development department. Staff Development is responsible for providing Hospital staff with in-service and continuing education programs. These trainings enable staff to effectively fulfill job requirements; meet State and Federal regulatory agency training/education standards; and address needs as identified by continuous performance improvement findings. Trainings are developed in a manner as to provide professional and personal growth opportunities for employees and to meet the requirements of various professional organizations for re-licensure and/or recertification. The primary purpose of this Staff Development Specialist I position is to coordinate and instruct Broughton Hospital’s Annual Training program. This includes preparing and developing training content, plans, and materials; providing classroom instruction; evaluating and revising programs as needed; and providing American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS/CPR) training, Hospital Approved Techniques (HAT) training, and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and/or advanced CPI training as required for current and newly hired temporary and permanent employees, Agency staff, interns, students, and contract employees. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Obtaining and maintaining Instructor certification in all of the above-mentioned training courses through formal knowledge and skill competency evaluations and teaching the requisite number of courses required;
Assisting with creating, editing, and maintaining the hospital’s Annual Training content, which includes the Annual Training/General Hospital Orientation Training Manual, handouts, and competency tests;
Assisting with creating an Annual Training calendar, scheduling classrooms, establishing training classes in the Learning Management System (LMS), and providing participant training credit through LMS, the Staff Development application, and any other associated training sites (i.e. CPI, AHA, etc.); Preparing and developing training programs, plans, and materials that can be delivered face-to-face or in an online format as deemed necessary by Hospital Administration, employee needs assessments, and/or at the direction of the Staff Development Director;
Providing direct classroom instruction;
Maintaining an inventory of all training materials, equipment, and literature and reordering said materials as deemed necessary; Assisting with creating and editing training videos for educational purposes;
Serving as a liaison between Staff Development and Broughton Hospital’s Therapeutic Response Team (TRT);
Conducting and analyzing comprehensive evaluations on all training classes that are delivered; and
Serving on various hospital committees and work groups as deemed necessary by Hospital Administration or the Staff Development Director. The normal working scheduled for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm; however, flexibility is required for training purposes and to meet the overall needs of the hospital. This position is designated as Non-Mandatory and is not required to report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of related training experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Instructor certification in AHA BLS/CPR and/or CPI’s Non-Violent Crisis Intervention program
Experience teaching in a hospital or healthcare setting
Experience creating training videos
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
