PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Lead Youth Development Professional (YDP) is responsible for ensuring a quality afterschool experience for our members. They must be enthusiastic, dependable and have a passion for working with children. The position’s key function is to supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the assigned program space, coaching YDP’s and providing opportunities for youth to gain new skills and participate in engaging programs. Duties include but are not limited to assisting children with homework, planning and organizing creative activities and programs, and providing opportunities to engage our members’ families in our work.

KEY ROLES

(Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing appropriate supervision at all times.
  • Plan and implement meaningful activities and lesson plans that are age-appropriate, exciting, challenging, and based in the areas of academics, STEAM, character development, community service, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.
  • Prepare the learning environment, lessons and necessary supplies for program activities.
  • Support the coordination and presentation of a culminating performance or presentation at the end of the program cycle for members’ families.
  • Work cooperatively with program staff to ensure the needs and interests of our members are being met.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.
  • Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance, sign in/out forms, behavior/incident/accident reports, as appropriate).
  • Adhere to all Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. May participate in and/or lead special programs and/or events. 2. May be required to drive a Club van.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  • Knowledge and experience working or volunteering in a youth development or related field
  • Experience in planning and implementing programs for children
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a 3 year clean driving record
