Position Summary:

Working in a highly responsive and team oriented manner, teach, coach and guide Professional Drivers, Forklift operators, Fleet Technicians, Front Line Leaders and Account Managers on accident and Injury free performance, as well as environmental and compliance matters. Travel to our LTL Service Centers, Dedicated Account and Warehouse locations to provide a broad range of on-site safety support functions and to serve as a corporate safety liaison with field personnel. Document and report on all of your activities. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Serving as a trainer for a wide variety of topics including: OSHA powered industrial truck (forklift), Lockout / Tag out, Personal Protective Equipment, hazardous material transportation, defensive driving, proper lifting techniques, Hours of Service, daily vehicle inspection and emergency spill response. Developing your expertise on industry regulations and company policies and procedures, and serve as a resource to other employees. Serving as an eyes and ears function, reporting field sentiment back to the Department head and immediately bubbling up issues and situations where employees may feel they have not been treated in a fair and consistent manner. Assisting Managers and Leadership with the development, tracking, and implementation (as warranted) of specific Dedicated Account and company-wide safety focuses and/or messages. Assisting Managers and Leadership with establishing monthly reporting procedures and protocols on safety meetings, Smith System Training, “hot button” or focused issues that may arise. Organizing, cataloguing, and building a files, and review vehicle accident files and, following industry guidelines, make initial determinations of Preventability. Assisting with helping Drivers, Service Center Managers, Dispatchers, and Dedicated Account Managers on Samsara/ELD operations, compliance and issues. Assisting with monitoring and addressing Hours of Service violations and/or questions as received from Drivers, Service Center Managers, Dispatchers, and Dedicated Account Managers. Assisting with the monitoring, tracking and administration of the Hard Braking and future telematics programs. Initiating coaching discussions with drivers and dockworkers to help them improve their performance. The coaching opportunity could be triggered by direct observation, receiving a complaint call or from reviewing an accident, injury or telematics records. Assisting when needed in administering road tests for truck driving academy graduates, new drivers and/or driver applicants. Assisting with processing fines/tickets received by drivers and reviewing for relevant details, the validity of the fines/tickets, and determine if the driver or company are responsible for payment. Using course materials and curriculum provided, conduct formal orientation and training presentations with up to a week’s worth of topics to a class size that will range from one to twenty people. Promptly complete thorough and accurate records reflecting all training activities, and complete and submit documentation to properly update the trained employee’s file. Be available and respond to assist with emergency situations 24 x 7 To be qualified for this position, you must possess the following: Must maintain full DOT qualifications to drive a Class A commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce (including Class A CDL and Valid DOT Medical Card) and maintain a motor vehicle record that meets company hiring guidelines. Must obtain and maintain valid, hazardous materials and tanker endorsements if you do not already have these endorsements. Doubles endorsement preferred but not required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability and desire to learn regulations and company processes. Must demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail.
