C-17 Aircraft Maintenance SME (Subject Matter Expert) – Training & Validation 4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars Goose Creek, SC 29445 Job Overview 9-month contract We are seeking a dedicated Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive experience in C-17 Maintenance Training System Instruction. You will play a crucial role in our client Synthetic Training Systems project as we enter the final stages of device verification and validation. Your expertise will ensure that design decisions meet engineering requirements and maintain fidelity to the actual aircraft platform, preventing negative training outcomes due to discrepancies in design or appearance.

Responsibilities Technical Expertise:

Serve as the C-17 qualified technical advisor during device verification and validation processes. Provide specialized knowledge of C-17 Flight Control Systems to guide design and implementation. Ensure all modifications and designs align with the operational fidelity of the C-17 aircraft.

Instructional Support:

Apply your experience as an instructor in the

USAF C-17

Maintenance Training System (MTS) to enhance training effectiveness. Support the development of training materials that accurately reflect the aircraft systems and operations.

Project Collaboration:

Work closely with the Systems Engineering team, providing insights to avoid nonconforming design decisions. Address configuration and design changes necessary for achieving full “entry into service” criteria for maintenance systems trainers.

Compliance and Certification:

Assist in complying with verification and validation requirements, focusing on certifications of design and conformity. Ensure the Wing and Engine Systems Trainer (WEST) design is consistent with the USAF Aircraft Flight Control System Trainer (AFCST) standards.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Act as a liaison between our team and our client, aligning efforts to meet project demands. Provide expertise to preclude design decisions that could negatively impact training due to lack of fidelity.

Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, or a combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to four years beyond the standard requirement.

Experience:

Minimum of eight years in maintenance training systems or maintenance simulation devices, focusing on military/DoD engineering standards. Direct experience with C-17 Globemaster III aircraft maintenance. Previous role as a C-17 Maintenance Training System Instructor. Experience as a

USAF C-17

Flying Crew Chief is highly desirable.

Skills and Abilities:

In-depth knowledge of C-17 Flight Control Systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related IT applications. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze data effectively. Excellent communication skills to interact with technical personnel across multiple disciplines and cultures. Ability to lead engineering teams or manage subcontractor projects is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications Instructional Certification:

Certified instructor with a proven track record in training system instruction.

Mechanical Background:

Hands-on experience in mechanical trades related to aircraft maintenance.

Management Experience:

Demonstrated ability to manage projects and lead teams effectively.

Engineering Knowledge:

Familiarity with various engineering disciplines, including avionics, mechanical systems, and flight controls.
