QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree or its equivalent from an accredited university Must be eligible for a valid teacher’s certificate, with endorsement in counseling and guidance Successful experience as a teacher or school counselor preferred Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce and submit required reports, correspondence, and financial information Effective oral and written communication skills Punctuality and regular attendance
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, implement, and evaluate an effective school guidance and counseling program. Provide developmental and comprehensive guidance and counseling services to all students. Provide new students with an orientation to school procedures and the school’s various opportunities for learning and assist with registration, as needed. Assist in the placement of individual students with special needs in appropriate educational situations. Follow the procedure for the security and maintenance of students’ educational records. Assist teachers in identifying and interpreting problems that interfere with a student’s ability to learn. Analyze and interpret test results to teachers, parents, and students to provide information about abilities, achievement, interests, and needs. Plan steps for modifying the behavior of students, with assistance from principals and teachers. Provide data concerning students’ needs to assist in curriculum evaluation and development in the school. Provide individual, small group, and large group counseling opportunities that may lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. Establish effective working relationships with employers, agencies, and other institutions that may be of use to teachers, parents, and students. Help students develop study habits, learn to use their time more effectively and develop other attitudes that make learning easier. Participate in curriculum development and assist teachers and administrators in planning activities and programs which meet student needs. Help identify students in need of special services, placement, motivation, or support. Coordinate, plan, and participate in the implementation of the school district and/or state assessment program in conjunction with the principal. Participate in Problem-Solving Team meetings. Participate in Section 504 and IEP meetings. Participate in annual Confidentiality training and Mandatory Reporter training. Perform any other duties as assigned
