State of Alabama School Counseling Certificate, or other State of Alabama Professional Educators Certificate endorsed in school counseling

JOB GOAL

To help students develop those skills in the areas of personal/social growth, educational planning, and career development that will contribute to their growth as mature and responsible members of society.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develops, implements, and evaluates an annual local school counseling and guidance plan in accordance with standards set forth by the State Plan and commensurate with the local system plan. 2. Implements the school counseling and guidance program curriculum. 3. Provides individual and group counseling and guidance including guiding and counseling students through the development of personal, social, educational, and career plans. 4. Consults and collaborates with parents/guardians, teachers, and staff about understanding and meeting the special needs of students and makes appropriate referrals. 5. Participates in activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school. 6. Provides orientation for new students, parents/guardians, and faculty. 7. Provides appropriate appraisal services to assist teachers, parents/guardians, and students. 8. Administers tests and analyzes and interprets test results to provide information about educational, career, and personal/social needs. 9. Assists with placement and follow-up services for students. 10. Assists students in selecting programs of study to enhance career planning. 11. Provides information and resource services for students, parents/guardians, and faculty. 12. Assists students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving, and positive human relations skills. 13. Plans with teachers, principal, parents/guardians, and students steps for modifying student behavior. 14. Utilizes community resources in addressing the needs of students. 15. Provides data concerning students’ needs to determine curricula development. 16. Prepares and manages annual budget pertinent to the counseling and guidance program. 17. Maintains comprehensive records and reports. 18. Develops personal professional growth plan and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership. 19. Exhibits positive human relations skills. 20. Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication. 21. Complies with local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws affecting area of responsibility as well as the American School Counselor Association Code of Ethics. 22. Performs other related duties as assigned

According to Madison County Schools Salary Schedule. Actual salary will be determined by rank and experience. Current employees with questions regarding step placement on the salary schedule should contact the Personnel Department.
