GRADUATION COACH JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE
Graduation Coach
SUPERVISES
Students and Assigned School Personnel as directed.
JOB GOAL
The Graduation Coach will have responsibility for facilitating the comprehensive support services model (processes/programs/best practices) in coordinating appropriate interventions, implementing identified district or school strategies for dropout prevention, and collaborating with state, district, school, and community stakeholders in aligning services to support at-risk students and their families. The main areas of responsibility are attendance, truancy, teacher discipline referrals, course credits, adult advocacy, and student/social/behavioral interventions, parental engagement, and innovative pathways for student success.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution. A valid Alabama Professional Educator’s Certificate. Three or more successful years experience as a teacher. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: Utilize the early warning dropout prevention data system to identify Alabama Graduation Tracking System (GTS) cohorts within the INOW software and design the Pyramid of Interventions that are aligned to the Response to Instruction framework. Create and coordinate a program aligned to the Comprehensive Support Services Model for Systemic District and/or School Prevention and Support, including but not limited to, The Parent Project as a juvenile diversion program; Teens as Parents; Social and emotional behaviors including but not limited to: Bullying Suicide prevention Tardiness Anger management Classroom management strategies and interventions for teachers, especially High School; Building student leadership with attitude and ethics; Other SDE initiatives related to identified indicators. 3. Develop and implement Transition Processes such as vertical teaming, address intervention needs of at-risk students at crucial transition points (elementary to middle; middle to high school; new students entering system; teen parents transitioning back to school; suspended/expelled students transitioning back to school). 4. Create a Community Wraparound Support Service Model by facilitating collaborative relationships with stakeholders; Families, Community Organizations/Agencies, Schools, Students. 5. Champion a Public Awareness Campaign for Dropout Prevention by sharing highlights and success stories 6. Aim for at least 95% of students graduating on time with the projected dropout rate of less than 2% 7. Analyze and reflect on the success of the graduation coach program and comprehensive support services and provide to the principal and/or superintendent a written report of the program, goals, and outcomes 8. Organize and manage the credit/grade recovery program, work with counselors to identify at-risk students by utilizing periodic credit checks, contact parents and students in order to encourage participation in credit recovery and graduation efforts, as well as provide for student progress evaluation and reporting 9. Organize and advertise tutoring services to all parents and students, maintain attendance records, report data to administration and PST chair, identify at-risk students in need of tutoring services based on grades and referrals from the PST committee, counselors, community members, etc, contact all parents, provide tutoring information and encourage attendance 10. Communicate with all stakeholders involved in the dropout prevention initiative, organize student mentor/mentee assignments and meetings, schedule parent meetings for identified at-risk students with regard to all at-risk identifiers, including attendance and behavior. 11. Work closely with the College and Career Readiness Counselor to procure parents, church, and civic groups that may help provide community service opportunities for students.
OTHER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As specifically related to the student population and school to be served to include, but are not limited to, the following: Identifying students at risk. Developing and/or sustaining school-wide support and interventions that include guiding students in meeting graduation requirements. Generating school support. Providing direct service. Developing a local Collaborative Graduation Team. Developing transitional programs and vertical teams. Developing family, community, and other relationships. Sharing success stories in various forms of media. Evaluating and reporting. Ensuring the coach will not be a teacher during the day but rather work with school personnel, families, and other agencies to assure students’ success in school. Providing and/or submitting reports to the State Department of Education as scheduled or requested.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position must have the ability to: Sit for extended periods of time. Enter data into a computer terminal/typewriter, operate standard office equipment, and use a phone. See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aides. Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone. Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone. Stand, walk and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds at waist height.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a standard office environment and come in direct contact with PCBOE central staff, district staff, and public.
