POSITION STATUS
Exempt, Fulltime, 12 months
POSITION PURPOSE
To provide overall administrative oversight to the College Counseling Department; to counsel students in academic planning and college selection; and to assist families in placing students in appropriate colleges and universities. To provide information and education on college counseling topics and issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree 2 years’ experience in college admission counseling, advising, or teaching at the secondary school level or the college level. Master’s degree in education or related field preferred
Must be passionate about working with high school students and their families with the goal of helping students develop academic and personal skills for college readiness.

Essential Functions
Lead, direct and oversee the College Counseling program, including assigning students a college advisor, managing communication of college and advising related information to families, and ensure that all students receive exceptional support and encouragement for college placement.
Develop and conduct night “workshops” for students and families featuring topics related to college placement, careers, scholarships, and curriculum.
Plan and implement “College Planning Days” for students in grades 9-12.
Assist Director of Strategic Planning to develop documents and share articles related to college placement including the school profile Oversee the facilitation of mailing or submitting electronically application materials from Holy Trinity to colleges based on student requests.
Maintain an overall calendar of events for the College Counseling department.
Oversee student use of the College Office, hosting college admission representatives, production of college counseling newsletter, scholarship newsletter and the Dual Enrollment program.
Consult with Head of the Senior High and Academic Advisors about students’ academic course selections.
Facilitate College Counseling staff development and awareness of trends in the field of college admission.
Oversee content of the section of the HTEA website related to College Counseling.
Oversee and conduct annual Summer College Boot Camp activities.
Co-Chair planning of College Festival or coordinate field trip to BPS college fair.
Co-Chair planning of Career Day
Sit on the Academic Affairs Committee and Student Services team.
Participate in professional development opportunities and conferences at the regional and national level.
Participate in various college campus fly-ins and other learning/networking opportunities on college campuses.
Participate in monthly consortium meetings.
Assume role of college and academic advisor to 30-40 students per grade level (11-12) and meet with them for family conferences 2+ times during 11-12th grades including all international students.
Advise parents and students about options for college, including 2- and 4-year programs, in-state and out-of-state colleges and public and private institutions and direct families to appropriate resources to learn more about those options.
Advise students in making curriculum choices to ensure students are both meeting graduation requirements and optimizing their academic experience at Holy Trinity in preparation for college. Create student schedules with this plan in mind.
Help students to develop and assess their college admission profile, including resume, transcript and standardized testing and develop of balanced list of colleges to submit applications to based on potential admissibility.
Assist students in preparing their college applications including writing the school/counselor letter of recommendation, compiling the secondary school report, filling out forms required by each college and providing general advice and support to the student during this process.
Collaborate with the Director of College Counseling to conduct night “workshops” for students and families featuring topics related to college placement, careers, scholarships and curriculum.
Assist students opting to participate in Dual Enrollment courses, summer programs or other ancillary coursework.
Work with Holy Trinity teachers to obtain teacher input for letters of recommendation and to obtain letters of recommendation requested by students to submit to colleges.
Communicate with families about the college counseling process via email, phone, and office hours as questions and concerns arise.
Attend other school events including student orientation and Open House as well as area activities (college fairs, workshops, etc.).
Plan graduation ceremony and other events for seniors in collaboration with the College Office Staff.
Communicate with College Counseling staff on a regular basis via email, on-site and staff meetings.
Participate in staff development opportunities at the local and regional levels. Perform all duties as requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
