School Guidance Counselor Somerset Preparatory Charter School at North Lauderdale 7101 Kimberly Blvd, North Lauderdale, FL 33068 School Guidance Counselor Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Guidance Counselor to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development. As a Guidance Counselor, you will work closely with students, parents, and faculty to create a positive learning environment and address any challenges that may arise. Your expertise in conflict management, behavior management, and mental health counseling will be essential in guiding students through their educational journey. Duties Provide individual and group counseling to students facing academic or personal challenges. Assist students in setting academic and career goals while providing guidance on standardized testing. Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop strategies for supporting students with special education needs. Implement behavior management techniques to promote positive student behavior and resolve conflicts. Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress while ensuring confidentiality. Work with child protective services when necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of students. Facilitate workshops on mental health awareness, conflict resolution, and social skills development. Engage with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and address any concerns. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Valid FLDOE counseling certificate Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting. Strong skills in conflict management and behavior management techniques. Knowledge of special education practices and child welfare policies. Familiarity with mental health counseling principles applicable to children and adolescents. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals including students, parents, educators, and community resources.
