FSUS University School Instructor – Certified School Counselor (10 Month Salaried) 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars Tallahassee, FL Department Florida State University Schools Responsibilities School counselors are responsible for working collaboratively with administration, teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders to implement a School Counseling Program by providing academic, post-secondary, and career advising, responsive services, and student services support.

Action Research:

As part of professional responsibilities faculty are expected to actively engage in action research to inform and improve instructional practices. This process involves identifying areas of instructional need, collecting, and analyzing data, implementing strategies based on findings, and reflecting on outcomes to enhance student learning. Participation in action research supports a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth and contributes to evidence-based decision making at both the classroom and school-wide levels.

School counselors are responsible for:

Academic advising, which includes creating and/or assisting with the development and support of an advisory program, post-secondary planning and application processes, career planning, student course scheduling, graduation monitoring and support. Responsive services which includes providing support to students, parents and teachers as needed, providing individual/family/school crisis intervention, participating in Child Study process, developing and monitoring 504 plans, assists with the development of behavior management plans or student contracts, and provide individual and small group counseling. Student Services support which includes supervision of students, attending staff conferences and curriculum development activities, assisting with test organization and proctoring, interpreting student data and results, conducting student orientations and transition activities including parent classes or workshops. Will also assist in all MTSS procedures across the district, including communication with school-level teams, providing resources in the area of MTSS, guiding school-based processes, and monitoring data in order to increase student achievement. Qualifications A Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution. State of Florida Educator’s Certificate in Guidance Counseling (K-12) or statement of eligibility that must be maintained throughout employment. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree.
