Full Job Description Department Advising First:

Division of Undergraduate Studies Responsibilities Responsible for advising undergraduate students in the development of academic schedules appropriate for stated education goals. Takes a proactive approach to academic advising, seeking out contact with students and staff, and providing advising services on request. Works with academic departments and other units within Undergraduate Studies to develop advising programs. Engages, helps plan, and participates in special projects for Advising First/UGST. Recommends changes and additions in existing policies and procedures that positively implements a successful advising program. Performs special projects as assigned by Undergraduate Studies. Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (

a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.) Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of University rules and regulations. Prior customer service experience and /or experience working with students in an educational setting. Ability to extract complex academic information from various sources and maintain confidentiality. Experience and/or working knowledge of student advising, counseling, or working one-on-one with people in a professional or academic setting. Creative problem-solving skills. Master’s degree is preferred. Computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Office and web-based applications. Ability to interpret and explain policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to students, parents, faculty, and staff. Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously with minimal to moderate supervision. Ability to deal with people in a calm, confident manner and with complete objectivity. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, supervisors, and interdepartmental personnel. Attention to detail with a high standard of integrity.
