Days SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the principal
DUTIES 1.
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. 2. Implements the written guidance plan. 3. Conducts individual counseling with students in areas of need. 4. Conducts group counseling with students in areas of academic, career, and social-emotional needs. 5. Coordinates with school staff to provide supportive instructional classroom activities that relate to students’ academic, career, and social-emotional needs. 6. Conducts home visits as needed in regard to school-related resources and expectations. 7. Assists with the planning/administration of standardized group testing. 8. Ensures that students receive appropriate career (educational or occupational) development assistance. 9. Consults with school and/or system staff on students’ problems and concerns as needed or requested. 10. Consults with parents/guardians on students’ problems and concerns as needed or requested. 11. Consults with community agencies in conjunction with the school social worker. 12. Works with staff and students of other schools to facilitate the smooth transition of students from lower to higher levels of education. 13. Counsels with teachers concerning pupils as needs arise. 14. Works effectively, cooperatively, and proactively with administrators, teachers, and staff in relation to students’ needs prior to school social work involvement at tiers two and three. 15. Refers students needing more intensive diagnosis to specialists and cooperating agencies with assistance from the school social worker. 16. Seeks school social worker assistance once student truancy issues arise to the specified level of intervention. 17. Interprets the program of guidance services to stakeholders. 18. Identifies needs for guidance that are unique in the school and community. 19. Works to improve the communication between home and school. 20. Monitors counseling program quality to ensure continuous improvement. 21. Assists with orientation of new students. 22. Participates in activities to keep abreast of significant developments in our changing society and the guidance/counseling area. 23. Maintains the confidentiality of students served. 24. Works well with administrators, teachers, and staff. 25. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Georgia Professional Certification in School Counseling Effective oral and written communication skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Routine physical activities associated with typical office setting. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and repetitive fine motor activities. Vision, hearing and verbal communications are essential functions of this position.
