General Summary:

The Coordinator of Academic and Transfer Advising serves as a key member of the advising team to support a diverse population of students navigate their academic goals. The coordinator is responsible for providing guidance on transfer opportunities, requirements, working with external partners to facilitate transfer collaborations, as well as organize workshops and events to support student transfers. The role will also serve as an academic advisor to students. This role will be responsible for advising students in support of college-wide student success, retention and persistence, and college completion initiatives. This position will work in close collaboration with staff from across the college, including: Admissions, Financial Aid, Enrollment Communications, Academic and Student Affairs program coordinators, and appropriate Directors and Deans.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide direct services to students, individual appointments, workshops, classroom visits, advising/registration sessions, etc. while also planning events, providing website and resource development, completing administrative work, etc.
This position has the primary responsibility for assisting the Assistant Dean of Pathway and Academic Advising in providing coordination of all activities and projects related to academic advising primarily on the Lowell campus:
Coordinate and manage assigned staff to conduct advising registration sessions (new and returning students), advising workshops (Academic and Transfer Advising), drop-in / walk-in / virtual advising sessions, and other related services within the department. Serve as the primary policy and procedure reference contact for the Academic and Transfer Advising staff.
Supervise and coordinate work activity of student workers in the Academic and Transfer Advising Centers.
Assist the Assistant Dean of Pathway and Academic Advising in developing standard practices, communications and activities to effectively enroll and transition students from Academic Pathways / MetaMajors.
Assist in faculty and staff training, including advising refreshers sessions, the Academic Advising Institute, online resource development, and use of technology, (including but not limited to EAB Navigate, Degree Works, SoftDocs, Civitas College Scheduler etc.)
Work in collaboration with the Coordinator of Transfer Affairs and Director of Career Integrated Learning to provide workshops and general overview of available transfer and career related resources and assessment tools.
Coordinate and implement transfer initiatives with the MCC community as well as external partners. Collaborate with MCC department deans on articulation agreements. Actively participate in Department of Education discussions regarding Mass Transfer updates, new initiatives, or programs. Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Academic Progress in regards to course repeat approvals, success plans and other retention and success initiatives.
Assist with the recruitment, hiring and training of full time / part time staff in the department, including academic advisors, coordinators, support staff, and student workers.
Advise an assigned caseload of students, as well as advising walk-in students and other scheduled student appointments.
Participate in group and individual Advising/Registration Sessions, individual academic advising appointments, and other departmental initiatives.
Engage in outreach and communication efforts with students to support college-wide student success, retention and completion efforts.
Provide information and support for students at recruitment, career and transfer activities including information sessions, open houses, workshops and on-campus events for prospective and current students. This may also include off-campus events on occasion.
Participate in the design, implementation and analysis of assessment activities within the division.
Assist in providing extra coverage in the advising offices during peak registration periods such as the start of the semester.
Assist other staff members with department correspondence including email/text campaigns, review and approval of department forms and other related items. Provide Transfer Advising services, providing information on MassTransfer program, MassTransfer Pathways, Commonwealth Commitment (recruitment and enrollment) Assist Academic Progress coordinator with retention and advising efforts for unsatisfactory student population, including students seeking to repeat courses for the 3rd time.
Provide students with information and resources on a variety of topics including academic programs, career prospects, individual courses, transfer credit, etc.
Develop outreach campaigns to students who may be academic difficulty determined by progress reports, midterm grades, course withdrawal or other referrals.
Assist in the development, implementation and assessment of proactive student outreach plans to support student success initiatives.
Oversee the Joint Admissions Program (JUMP) in partnership with UMass Lowell. Serve as the primary liaison between institutions, manage admissions operations, and lead the development and implementation of program procedures, including transfer course coordination and academic alignment.
Serve as Dual Enrollment / Early College Advisor and provide assistance to eligible high school students who participate in MCC’s Dual Enrollment Academy. Participate in the development and delivery of Dual Enrollment Orientations. Provide intensive outreach and communication with students, parents, guidance counselors and instructors.
Collaborate with assigned Academic Division and/or Departments as liaison between the Academic, Career and Transfer Advising department and that Division to further the shared goals of student success and completion.
Attend academic division/department meetings throughout the year.
Work with the division/departments to identify opportunities for advisors to assist in promoting the majors/programs and become familiar with assigned areas.
Disseminate information gained through cross divisional collaborations to other academic counselors in the advising department and providing information, training and resources to assigned academic areas regarding academic advising, career and transfer information and processes.
Work collaboratively with Academic Divisions/Departments in the updating and promotion of Academic/Pathways Maps and advising materials for students in their programs.
Perform administrative tasks as necessary to achieve departmental goals, including: Collecting, organizing, and disseminating information and data in relation to departmental activities and events. Developing, updating and disseminating advising materials and resources for students and faculty/staff advisors Official and Unofficial Transcript Review for all students, submitting documents accordingly to enrollment staff for data processing.
Professional Growth and Development Maintain professional knowledge in applicable areas (e.g. working knowledge of college/department policies and procedures, research current trends and advances in profession, read professional literature, participation in professional organizations, attend workshops, training sessions or conferences, etc.) Active participation and membership on college-wide, divisional and departmental committees as approved by supervisor.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in education, counseling, or closely related field with five (5) years of experience and/or training involving college admissions, financial aid, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of developmental, holistic, proactive, and appreciative advising approaches.
Demonstrated understanding of theory and practice in the discipline of academic advising and planning.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various college departments including deans, faculty and staff.
Ability to assist several students with a variety of service needs simultaneously and to manage multiple projects.
Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the community college mission, student population and the needs of low income, first generation to college and student with disabilities.
Ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

Technology Utilization:

Confidence and proficiency with computers and technology such as Microsoft Office, Oracle Banner (versions 8 and 9) EAB Navigate, Civitas College Scheduler, SoftDocs/E-Trieve and other related student focused applications.

Data Utilization/Mathematical Aptitude:

Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, advisory and/or design data and information.
Strong interpersonal, written and oral communications skills

Salary Range:

$77,358 is the starting salary for Column B under the

MCCC 2025
