REPORTS TO:

Guidance / Assistant Pupil Personnel Services Director

POSITION SUMMARY

Through implementation of a comprehensive guidance and counseling program, the school counselor helps all students apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and apply impersonal skills, and plan for postsecondary options.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include, but are not limited to, the following: Listens to students concerns about academic, emotional or social problems.

Helps students process their problems and plan goals and actions.

Mediates conflict between students and teachers.

Improves parent/teacher relationships.

Assists with college applications, jobs and scholarships.

Assists with career placement and post-secondary planning.

Refers students to psychologists, school adjustment counselors, and other mental health resources.

Prepares schedules for students and monitors progress for all of them as per graduation requirement.

Coordinates with social workers and school staff to develop and implement various activities and provide support to all services.

Analyze all student requirements and prepare formal lessons for all students and provide support to all academic activities.

Maintains and analyzes all student data and prepares programs and activities to provide support to all student plans. Assists students with all emotional requirements and prepares various counseling and intervention strategies for all students.

Maintains and ensures confidentiality.

Meets with and evaluates students strengths, weaknesses, interests, and aptitudes by way of Naviance and other curriculum. Identifies areas for improvement i.e. behavioral issues, academic performance problems, and attendance non-compliance.

Works with students to develop skills of time management, organization, and overall study habits.

Helps students understand and overcome social and/or behavioral problems.

Assists students in the development of career goals and corresponding academic achievement plans.

Counsels individuals or groups as needed.

Attends all required meetings for caseload. Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents for student success.

Capable of holding 504 plan meetings, writing plans, and sharing plans to appropriate stakeholders. Carry-out recruitment and admissions protocols and responsibilities, and work with sending districts. Performs all duties with the safety and happiness of our students in mind.

All other duties as assigned or directed by Assistant PPSD/Guidance Director or Superintendent-Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Sincere interest in the student population.

Ability to promote an operational atmosphere conducive to a good learning situation.

Ability to communicate with staff (professional and non-professional).Knowledge of and willingness to implement a comprehensive school counseling program.

Knowledge and an ability to cope with adolescents and adults.

Ability to operate independently when required within the framework of the position.

An ability to communicate effectively with appropriate groups within the school district.

Ability to deal with situations with integrity and the best interest of the school community as a primary consideration.

Knowledgeable about community service organizations that service the teenage population.

Must be authorized to work in the United States.

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE

MA DESE License as a School Guidance Counselor required.

Possession of a Masters Degree with a major in counseling.

Experience as a Guidance Counselor preferred.

Experience in a school setting is preferred but not required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Guidance Counselor does not supervise any staff at Bay Path.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Bay Path Teachers Association and the

SWCRVSDC.SALARY

$59,152.95 – $105,795.77 (step as appropriate on Teachers salary schedule pursuant to the

BPTA CBA

).
