GENERAL PURPOSE

This position is responsible for providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for providing leadership in the implementation of the District’s K-12 Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; providing leadership and serving as a resource to others.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist the Director III-Counseling with leadership and direction for school counseling services, assuring full implementation of the components of the comprehensive school counseling program (academic, social/emotional, and career).
Coordinates the evaluation of revision of the school counseling curriculum as necessary.
Conducts program evaluations and needs assessments ensuring the counseling program’s effectiveness in achieving overall objectives of the department.
Assists with the mentoring and development of new counselors.
Develop educational workshops for parents and the community to help support emotional regulation, social skills, and behavior management.
Plans and coordinates professional development for the school counselors, principals, teachers, and families.
Consult with principals, school counselors, school psychologists, teachers, and administrators regarding the social and emotional needs of students.
Assists school counselors and other staff regarding difficult or unusual counseling issues.
Facilitates meetings, workshops, seminars, etc. identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a District representative.
Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential files and records providing up to date and/or historical reference in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements.
Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and serving as a department and/or District representative.
Plans budget allocations and expenditures ensuring that allocations are accurate andexpenses are within budget limits.
Prepares a wide variety of complex materials documenting activities and issues, meetingcompliance requirements, providing audit references, making presentations, and/orproviding supporting materials for requested actions.
Presents information communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuringadherence to established internal controls.
Processes documents and materials updating and distributing information, authorizingaction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
Researches a variety of topics required to coordinate counseling program developing newprograms/services, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, securing generalinformation and/or responding to requests as directed.
Responds to a variety of issues and inquires for the purpose of resolving problems,providing information, and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
Serves as a liaison between many stakeholders facilitating communication betweenparticipants and fostering a positive relationship.
Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of four (4) years of related experience with increasing levels of responsibilityis required.
Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
Possession of a Missouri State Counselor Certification.
Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance the results of which must be satisfactory tothe District, required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/orratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitategroup discussions; and analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions and createaction plans.
Knowledge based competencies required to perform the functions of the includepertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; standardbusiness practices; program planning and development; concepts of grammar andpunctuation; instructional procedures and practices; age appropriate student activities;safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; and stages of child development/behavior.

Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in orderto meet changing conditions.
Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the ,including: operating standard office equipment including using a variety of softwareapplications; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accuraterecords; analyzing data; conducting interviews; and facilitating meetings.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
