Position Summary Information
Responsibilities 1. Assist with developing and processing necessary forms, documents, and systems, in cooperation with the Department of Education, Delta Educational Opportunity Center (DEOC) Director, Postsecondary institutions, and community organizations/groups in the 12-county service area.
2. Assist with the implementation and management of the process to recruit and select individuals to participate in the program. Includes the development and maintenance of media and marketing campaigns including the use of social media outlets.
3. Conduct one-on-one interviews and assessments to determine eligibility for program participants using college and career readiness assessments or Strong Interest Inventory.
4. Monitor program participants in activities and tasks to complete the PEP successfully.
5. Develop and implement a system to administer academic advisement and referrals to assigned participants.
6. Coordinate and facilitate workshops on financial literacy, financial aid, ACT registration and other services needed by program participants, and partners.
7. Support program participants with creating a Participant Education Plan (PEP) for services needed.
8. Assist in the development, implementation, and management of the systems for collecting data and providing timely documentation for evaluating program outcomes.
9. Work closely with the Office of Financial Aid, Student Service Centers, and Career Services at each of the community colleges and universities in the 12 county service area.
10. Establish partnerships with adult education providers, social service organizations, and community-based programs with an academic skills development focus.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or other field related to the position and experience in adult education programs. In addition, it is desirable for this person to have:
1. Experience in an adult educational setting.
2. Experience with providing one-on-one academic or career guidance to sensitive populations.
3. Good listening, planning, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
4. Excellent written and oral communications.
5. Excellent recruiting and retention abilities.
6. Good working knowledge and familiarity of higher education, financial aid, GED and ACT testing and admissions.
7. Good working knowledge and understanding of the psychological, behavioral, and educational issues affecting the learning potential of low-income, first generation participants.
8. Good working knowledge of developing individual education and career plans for sensitive populations.
9. Willingness to regularly travel in the program service area and to attend state, regional and national conferences and workshops.
10. Ability to plan professional development opportunities and provide technical assistance to program staff, partners, and program participants.
11. A working knowledge of Window-based computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Salary Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or other field related to the position.
Experience in adult and/or underrepresented participants’ education programs.
Valid driver’s license and access to an insured motor vehicle for business use.
Availability to attend meetings, conferences or special events after normal work hours and on weekends.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in working with federally-funded programs.
Experience in public promotions to persons from all socioeconomic conditions and communities.
Experience with education and career assessment tools and programs.
Personal experience in overcoming or understanding disadvantages and circumstances similar to the population served by the program.
A commitment to working with diverse populations in the Mississippi Delta especially economically disadvantaged populations, including low-income young adults, first-generation students, students with a disability, and non-traditional students.
