Visit NCCU.edu. Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Office of the Provost is responsible for all matters pertaining to academic programs.
This includes oversight of academic program planning, the quality and delivery ofinstruction, strategic budgetary planning and collaborative research initiatives. The Officeof the Provost is also responsible for all recruitment initiatives and matters associatedwith enrollment management. Additionally, this office fosters opportunities for high-quality and appropriate academic advising, monitoring, mentoring, nurturing andcoaching to ensure the academic and personal success of students. Primary Purpose of Position Advises junior and senior-level students concerning their academic plans, progress, and academic/career goals, in order to assist the students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements. The Graduation Specialist is required to have knowledge of undergraduate academic programs, knowledge of academic advisement best practices, and the ability to bridge gaps across all academic programs. This position reports to the Coordinator of Upper Division Professional Academic Advising. This is a professional advising position supporting an academic department, college, or central advising office. This position requires considerable contact with students and therefore requires extensive communication skills. Graduation Specialist are expected to possess extensive knowledge about academic programs, policies, procedures, and student support services within the scope of their responsibilities. They must be able to interpret student needs and provide individualized service and assistance while maintaining confidentiality. Multiple Graduation Specialists will be hired from this announcement.
NCCU is looking to place graduation specialists in the various colleges and schools. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships with diverse audiences. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Ability to work collaboratively. Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and pay attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Minimum Education/Experience This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor’s specific responsibilities; Master’s degree preferred. 3 to 5years of professional work experience in a higher education environment. Proficiency with Banner and degree audit programs with the ability to learn new software as required. Advise students individually and/or within groups regarding academic core and/or departmental requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources. Create and review academic plans for graduation, clarify NCCU policies and procedures, refer students to campus resources and assist in the definition of realistic career goals. Function

Participate in Commencement and recruitment activities including recruitment events, campus visits, Open House, Junior Day, Senior Day, Community College Day, and other related advising programming. Provide one-on-one advising to new, returning, transfer, and international junior and senior level students regarding courses, major, career choices, academic policies and degree requirements.
