Job Description
Purpose:
To help all students develop skills in the areas of person-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.
Qualifications
- A Counselor’s license
- Completion of an approved program in school counseling at the master’s level or above
- Completion of Praxis (School Guidance and Counseling)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Program Planning
o The school counselor establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program. The school counselor involves other school staff in making decision about the school counseling program. - Counseling
o The school counselor provides the individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventative and remedial needs of students. - Consulting
o The school counselor consults with students, parents, teachers, and other school community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of the students. - Coordinating
o The school counselor coordinates all counseling services for students and assist with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school. The counselor also assist with teachers with the Guidance Curriculum. - Student Appraisal
o The school counselor accurately interprets test results and other student data. The counselor also assists teachers with the educational placement of student by using appropriate education assessment strategies. - Professional Practices and Development
o The school counselor adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession, abides by the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the schools. The counselor also participates in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge and skills when needed. - The school counselor is subject to all other duties as assigned by the principal
