Nature of Work
The Restorative Justice Facilitator plans, organizes, and instructs restorative practices within the school environment. This employee assists students who need additional opportunities to develop prosocial competencies such as self-discipline, interpersonal skill-building, responsible decision making, and conflict resolution skills, so academic learning continues and student achievement increases.
Qualifications and Licensure
High School Diploma and 48 semester hours completed at an institution of higher learning or an Associate’s Degree
Experience in working with students, preferably middle school aged students
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Local School Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Duties and Responsibilities Assists in planning and facilitating restorative conversations with students, parents, and staff.
Communicates with staff regarding issues of student discord.
Works with staff, especially the School Counselor, and parent/family caregiver to address academic and behavior concerns.
Plans home visits with staff members.
Institutes re-entry procedures for students returning from suspension, alternative school placement, or extended absences.
Establishes and adapts restorative circle procedures.
Creates and monitors student support plans.
Practices real-time de-escalation coaching for students and staff.
Participates in required training activities/professional development.
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements (if applicable)
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel repetitive motions and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a constantly changing environment.
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff and administration and the general public.
