Job Description
Belmont Elementary School is seeking a NH DOE Certified/Certifiable School Counselor to provide education, career, and social guidance and counseling to students. Applicants must possess good communication skills, experience building schedules, and working with students, staff and administration in a variety of capacities. Master’s degree from a recognized college or university, with a major in social work, counseling or related field is required.
This position qualifies for a generous benefit package including District contribution toward health insurance plus fully paid Dental, Life and Long-Term Disability Insurance as well as sick and personal time. The contract will be for 184 days, which includes 178 school days and 8 workshop days.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Direct services to students including registration/orientation, academic advising, special and exceptional student placement and follow up services.
2.Assist students to understand their own personal assets, liabilities and opportunities.
3.Aid in the development of worthwhile personal objectives and in the development of a plan to achieve their goals.
4.Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and community members to establish and maintain the best possible environment for learning and personal growth.
5.Assist teachers with the gathering of information that will assist in the planning and conducting of classroom work and management.
6.Coordinate school and community resources on behalf of all students.
7.Provide small group and individual counseling as appropriate for students according to the presenting personal/developmental needs at each grade level.
8.Develop, conduct, and coordinate organized guidance and counseling activities.
9.Assist in identifying students with special needs.
10.Provide crisis interventions, information and referral.
11.Assist students in successfully making the transition from one grade level to another.
12.Assist in classroom and/or behavioral management planning upon request.
13.Supervise student records and protect their confidentiality.
14.Serve as a resource person for parents and school staff.
15.Provide an appropriate counseling referral system for students, parents, and staff members to reach the student’s needs.
16.Plan and provide a variety of group activities designed to be developmental and preventive in nature.
17.Attend and participate in meetings and consultations.
18.Oversee 504 Plan creation, implementation and renewal/modification.
19.Coordinate and oversee report card grading.
20.Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
