Job Description
Provide guidance and counseling to school-aged children as part of public school guidance programs and in support of bilingual education program for Mandarin-speaking students who are English language learners. Work in collaboration with teaching staff and other school personnel to enable effective participation of students in their current and future educational programs and to assist students with challenges to academic success, such as attendance and/or behavioral concerns. Provide individual counseling to students regarding academic/educational issues and career/post-secondary planning. Instruct and advise students on subjects related to career/college readiness, academic skills, and social/emotional development through classes and/or small group discussions. Provide a range of support services to give students the knowledge and skills they need to be effective learners and contributing members of the school community. When necessary, meet with parents to inform them of child’s progress and need for follow up.
Required:
Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, or a related field. New York State School Counselor Certificate and New York State Bilingual Education Extension Certification in Mandarin required.
