The Role:
Prospect Schools is seeking an organized, flexible, and mission-driven Academic Counselor to join us in support of our growing network of schools. The ideal candidate is fully dedicated to the mission of Prospect Schools and to supporting the success of our students and families. This person will report directly to the Director of International Baccalaureate (IB) and be responsible for supporting the academic needs of students through counseling and helping to foster an inclusive, welcoming environment for the broader school community.
Academic Counseling and Systems:
Regularly analyze academic performance data to identify students at risk of failing and collaborate with stakeholders to design responsive, tiered interventions. Identify students who are academically at-risk, and provide supportive individual and group academic and social emotional counseling or referral to additional services as needed Coordinate the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support process, in partnership with the grade-level Student Affairs Manager and Student Support Services team. Support students, families, and faculty in understanding school-specific promotion requirements, based on course credit and NYS Regents Exams. Prior experience with academic counseling related to International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is preferred. Maintain clear communication of progress towards academic promotion with students, families, advisors, and grade team support teammates. As needed, work directly with a caseload of students for individual mandated IEP counseling
Student Data:
Use an MTSS framework to monitor academic pass/fail data and attendance data. Identify students in need of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports, ensuring equitable access to interventions. Partner with teachers and instructional teams to co-develop academic support plans tailored to individual student needs, including targeted tutoring, modified coursework, or check-in systems. Coordinate and implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic interventions, ensuring fidelity of support services and documenting student growth over time. Develop, own, and lead attendance intervention and support plans for students who are chronically absent In partnership with school leaders, provide relevant data and context when student promotion decisions are made for the upcoming school year
Student Culture:
Model how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families and support teachers to do the same Promote a culture of academic curiosity and achievement by organizing and supporting events that celebrate student success, such as honor roll brunch, academic showcases, and award ceremony. Support in school-wide systems such as Arrival, Lunch, and Dismissal with an eye for student safety and inclusiveness Implement advisory and small-group interventions to increase student achievement, adjusting programming and supports to ensure continuous improvement.
Candidate Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree At least 2 years of social work/counseling experience, preferably in a school environment Experience coaching students through IB requirements strongly preferred Experience working with data and organizing it in a clear and digestible fashion Exceptionally strong organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail Adept at collaborating and building community with others

Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is from $67,200 – $95,812.
