Qualifications:
Active PA School Counselor K-12 certification is required. Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in Education is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of adolescent development, counseling theories, and ethical practices. Experience working with diverse student populations preferred.
Description:
The School District of Springfield Township is seeking candidates who possess excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to work with energetic students, and the ability to relate well within the school community. SDST is committed to diversity in our workplace and welcomes the opportunity to consider all candidates. This position will be a Long Term Substitute School Counselor for the 1st semester. The High School Counselor supports students in their academic, social/emotional, and career development. The counselor works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, families, and community organizations to ensure that students are prepared for postsecondary success and have access to a safe, supportive, and equitable learning environment.
Responsibilities:
Assist students with course selection, scheduling, and graduation planning. Monitor academic progress and intervene when students are at risk of failure. Promote effective study habits and time management skills. Coordinate support services such as tutoring and academic interventions. Facilitate college and career exploration activities. Provide resources for college applications, financial aid (e.g., FAFSA), and scholarship opportunities. Coordinate college visits, career fairs, and guest speakers. Administer and interpret career assessments (e.g., ASVAB, interest inventories). Provide individual and group counseling to address personal, social, and emotional concerns. Implement programs that promote mental wellness, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships. Collaborate with school staff and outside agencies to support student mental health. Respond to crises and provide short-term interventions as needed. Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the ASCA National Model. Maintain accurate and confidential student records. Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 meetings as needed. Serve as a resource for school staff regarding student development and behavioral strategies. Terms of employment:
Long Term Substitute position to be determined in accordance with the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement. Position to begin August 25, 2025 not to extend beyond January 23, 2026.
