Contract, 20 hours per week YESPhilly Accelerated High School is a small school serving youth and young adults ages 16 through 21 who have previously disengaged from Philadelphia Public Schools. YESPhilly has a strong youth engagement/development model that helps students address many of the challenges they face academically, emotionally, and socially while preparing them for a successful transition to post-secondary training or employment. We are looking for a passionate, energetic, Postsecondary Coordinator to add to our team. Job Summary The Postsecondary Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting students’ transitions from high school to college, vocational programs, military service, or career pathways. This position focuses on guiding students through the college application and financial aid processes, exposing them to various post-secondary opportunities, and building partnerships with higher education institutions, employers, and community organizations.
Essential Functions:
Student Advancement to Post-Graduate Life Provide one-on-one and group advising to students regarding college applications, vocational training, careers, scholarships, and financial aid Support the development of individual post-secondary plans for all juniors and seniors Maintain a database of student post-secondary plans, applications, acceptances, and financial aid submissions Serve as the SAT School Day testing administration and proctor Track and report post-secondary outcomes and assist with data analysis to inform school improvement planning Assist students with Xello assignments Managing all outcome data for reports and utilizing data to help make strategic recommendations for the school Complete bi-weekly, end-of-term, and annual progress reports Assist students with 1 Stop Career Interest Surveys Specific to the Act 158 Graduation Pathways Maintain a thorough understanding of the requirements and options for each of the 5 Graduation Pathways as mandated by Act 158 Schedule and assist with certification trainings, and upload certifications to the district’s database Provide and explain information for each of the pathways to students, their families, and staff, so they understand them, and each student can choose a pathway that aligns with their individual interests and goals Work with each student individually to establish and track progress on their pathway and provide the support, structure, resources, and connections that allow them to make progress in a timely manner Manage student data and progress in the YESPhilly and School District’s data systems Provide reports to students, families, and staff that track each student’s progress, on their chosen pathway, their successes and challenges, and timeline for completion Requirements Effective communication, both orally and in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, supportive staff, parents, and students Belief that all students should be held to rigorous standards Openness to restorative and collaborative problem-solving Eagerness to creatively and thoughtfully engage students in ways that connect to their communities and the world including understanding historical and current community empowerment and civil rights issues Drive for professional development, growth, and personal improvement Successful experience in an urban middle or high school or other setting serving under-resourced youth (preferred)
