HILTON HEAD MIDDLE POSITION PURPOSE
Provides targeted instruction and support within the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) elective, an academic acceleration program that aims to prepare students, ensure academic success and readiness for higher education and future careers, transitioning with the AVID cohorts from middle school into high school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide direct instruction and mentoring to students using the AVID curriculum Foster an environment conducive to learning and student engagement, emphasizing the organizational and study skills that students need to succeed in rigorous courses Guide students in inquiry-based and collaborative learning activities that enhances their critical thinking and problem-solving skills Monitor and support students’ academic progress, providing additional resources and interventions as necessary to assist students in achieving their academic goals Facilitate AVID strategies school-wide to promote a college-going culture Coordinate with other AVID teachers, school counselors, and administrators to ensure a consistent approach and shared objectives across the student cohorts Organize college visits, speakers, and events that enrich students’ educational experiences Maintain ongoing communication with families Transition with the AVID cohorts to high schools, ensuring continuity and stability in the students’ educational journey Participate in AVID professional learning and become a resource for other teachers aiming to implement AVID strategies in their classrooms
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a valid South Carolina teaching certificate or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired. Master’s degree preferred. At least five years’ experience teaching in secondary schools.

: Ability to analyze, develop, implement, and track intervention plans and strategies Experience in research-based instructional practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with both youth and adults Competence in implementing and monitoring detailed intervention plans and strategies
