Job Summary This position includes clinical responsibilities of providing genetic counseling as well as academic responsibility in the Masters of Science Genetic Counseling Program. Clinical practice includes evaluating medical history, family history and laboratory findings pertaining to a risk or diagnosis of a genetic condition. The role requires working within a team of healthcare professionals and genetic counselling students to accomplish the management of individuals at-risk for genetic conditions. Academic responsibilities include clinical and didactic instruction under direction from the Program Director. Accountabilities Gathers diagnostic information; analyzes clinical laboratory findings; develops management plan; counsels patients and families regarding genetic diagnosis, risk of recurrence, and reproductive options.
- 70% Instructs/teaches genetic counseling to Master of Science genetic counseling candidates in both the classroom and clinical setting.
- 20% Develops and implements research projects, grant proposals, and projects; composes articles for professional presentation or publication.
- 5% Assists the Director of Genetic Counseling Program in administering other projects, as needed.
- 5% Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Requirements Master’s Degree
- Master’s of Science from an Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling accredited Genetic Counseling Program.
No previous experience required. Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses Certification/Active Candidate from the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Knowledge of clinical supervision and counseling techniques.
