Qualifications:

South Carolina certification in Secondary Guidance (89)
High school or career center guidance experience preferred
General Guidance Implement the high school guidance program through classroom guidance, individual, and group counseling, with an emphasis on CTE College and Career preparedness. Counsel individuals and groups of students through developing educational and career plans. Guide students in evaluating their current performance standing and planning their achievement of high school graduation and CTE completer programs. Assist students with course selection by inputting PowerSchool recommendations and assisting with course changes during drop/add. Assist students with letters of recommendation, transcripts, ASVAB, and college and career applications. Serve as registrar for permanent records; develops and maintains guidance records including competency profile sheets. Collects and reports data for state report cards, placement report, Perkins Performance Report to the Office of Career and Technical Education. Refer students to as-needed programs for pregnant and parenting teens. Collaborate and assist with Student Services to design and implement industry/workforce opportunities and programs. Facilitate the scholarship committee and work with the administration to ensure equity and fairness. Monitor student attendance for truancy and send appropriate notifications. Audit student records for concentrator/completer status for state reporting purposes. Works with WBL coordinator in placement and evaluation of students in cooperative education programs and internships and maintains files for each student. Participates in annual Mandatory Reporting training and is a mandatory reporter. Provides counsel to staff who are in doubt or have questions about reporting. Counseling Guide students in taking appropriate steps toward implementing career goals. Counsel individuals and small groups of students toward personal/social and emotional growth. Provides individual counseling for confidential concerns of students. Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students. Refer students needing additional support to appropriate program specialists or community agencies. Provide counseling services to students at DMTC as their primary counselor and handle all emergency situations for students while at DMTC. Communicate effectively with students’ home high school counselors to provide information necessary for seamless services. Other duties as assigned by the Director. Collaboration with feeder schools Reports grades to feeder high schools. Coordinates activities to assure nondiscrimination in the provision of services to students. Communicates with feeder high school counselors to exchange information and share ideas to enhance the educational opportunities of all students. Registers students for career and technology programs and provides information about the DMTC to parents and feeder school personnel. Develops a working relationship with representatives of technical colleges and other post-secondary institutions to assist students in furthering their education. Includes both feeder schools district social worker and the district’s safety coordinator on all cases regarding homeless students, pregnancy, trauma, abuse, need for a threat assessment, need to report to law enforcement, mandatory reporting, etc. Events Host and participate in College and Career programs. Provide orientation and tour activities for students new to the school and participate in creating and participating in programs designed to introduce students to CTE. Assist with Military Day, Career Day, Awards programs, Open House, and other College and Career events pertaining to DMTC. Plan and implement recruitment activities. Participate in, coordinate, or conduct drug-free activities (e.g., Red Ribbon, drug, and vape tobacco awareness). Serve as a member of the School Leadership Team and School Improvement Committee.
