Preferred Qualifications Job Description Summary The University of South Alabama’s Career Development department is seeking to hire a Coordinator, Special Events and Student Experience. Interested candidates should apply to be considered. Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position. Essential Functions Serves as liaison between employers, faculty/departments and students. Creates a virtual Employer Handbook that provides employers information about South, our students, how to get connected and stay connected, etc. Works with Career Consultants as they engage with faculty and students and connect to employers. Establishes best practices in student and employer engagement activities. Stays informed on trends in higher education as it pertains to student engagement. Acts as coordinator with campus partners on college/department specific events. Innovates and designs high impact practices based on evidence from the field. Schedules dates for employer information sessions, interviews, and fairs along with the Coordinator of Employer Relations and Student Experience. Surveys employers and alumni on quality of events and services provided for improvement purposes along with the Coordinator of Employer Relations and Student Experience. Designs and produces all marketing materials for events, collaborating with other units as appropriate. Serves as lead on Handshake/Employer Engagement. Serves on the Handshake leadership team. Develops training materials and tutorials for Employer Engagement. Tracks Students Hired through Handshake. Collaborates on creating student tutorials on utilizing Handshake. Establishes tracking of student hirings. Maintains a good knowledge of the career development field. Supports students and graduates on a one-on-one basis providing tailored and impartial support on anything from job interview prep to advising on what to do post graduation. Develops a vast knowledge of study, training, employment routes, recruitment processes, and labor market intelligence for difference career sectors and subject areas, in order to support students and graduates, and to inform their work with academics. Works collaboratively with academic departments/colleges. Assists with specific career services, such as mock interviews, resume assistance, connecting students to internships and co-ops. Understands the NACE competencies and assists students in developing and understanding their skills and level of career readiness. Collaborates on a range of career initiatives targeted at undergraduate and graduate students. Identifies and responds to the career related issues and challenges of students through developing a range of activities to enhance students’ confidence and skills to move successfully into roles or further study following graduation. Skills in evaluating a student’s academic interests and desires to formulate a plan designed to assist the student in achievement of specified career goals. Maintains knowledge of tools used for student interest and personality type and the ability to interpret results of such tools to assist students in making sound decisions. Reads and interprets polices related to academic programs and student requirements for participation in various programs as needed. Attends staff meetings and on campus and state/national professional development opportunities. Works within EAB/Navigate South and Handshake building outreach and communication campaigns. Regular and prompt attendance. Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required. Related duties as required.
