Trenholm State Community College Position Summary The College and Career Navigator will plan and implement activities that lead to successful student retention and GED completion. This person will advise students on career choices, assist prospective students with career assessments as well as application, registration, and financial aid procedures of the college. The College and Career Navigator will also provide information to students concerning academic, technical, and terminal programs at Trenholm State and surrounding colleges while working with partnering agencies to address life barriers that prohibit student retention and program completion. (Continuation of position contingent upon grant renewal)
Salary Schedule:
E1 02 Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Establish positive relationships and counsel with adult education students to provide support by identifying barriers to success and connect to appropriate internal and/or external resources.
Counsel with participants to identify address barriers and connect to other resources as needed.
Assist in the recruitment and retention of program participants.
Assist in the development and implementation of Integrated Education and Training (IET) and recruit participants.
Assists with the administration of the Alabama Career Essentials (ACE) and Mobilizing Alabama Pathways (MAP) programs and monitor students’ progress.
Conduct intake and orientation classes and develop monthly schedule to include in-person and virtual attendance.
Conduct workplace readiness and life skills workshops (e.g., resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing skills, mock interviews, online job search, goal setting, time management, coping skills, etc.).
Connect with community-based agencies, employers, and area career center partners to recruit participants and/or refer participants for additional support services to ensure successful student outcomes.
Coordinate with college recruiters, WIOA representatives, and/or employers to ensure transition into college and/or the workforce.
Work closely with program staff and partners to ensure participants’ success.
Serve as a transition specialist and navigate students through the college admissions process (admissions application, transcript requests, placement testing, FAFSA, WIOA, scholarship applications, etc.).
Coordinate annual Transition to College Day.
Provide and prepare statistical data for reports as requested by the Program Director.
Collaborate with program and college staff to promote the program through social media platforms and other means of advertising.
Conduct follow-up activities with current and past participants.
Administer the TABE assessment.
Maintain a flexible working schedule to service both day and night classes at all program sites.
Attend and participate in meetings, workshops, and other professional development activities provided by the program and the college, as well as ACCS sponsored activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Excellent communication skills.
Proficient skills in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data input, and internet navigation required.
Must be professional, detail-oriented, well-organized, and dependable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in counseling from a regionally accredited institution.
Relative work experience.
Bilingual.
