The Tutorial Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the academic success of student-athletes. This position is responsible for overseeing the tutorial program, which includes hiring, training, and scheduling tutors to ensure that student-athletes receive the academic support they need to excel in their studies. The Tutorial Coordinator will work closely with academic advisors and coaches to monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, providing consistent communication regarding their performance and any necessary interventions. This role also involves conducting training sessions for tutors and maintaining training materials and ensuring compliance with NCAA, SWAC, and Alabama State University rules and regulations. Additionally, the Tutorial Coordinator/Learning Specialist will collaborate with the Academic Advisor to develop individualized academic plans for student-athletes with education-impacting disabilities, ensuring they have access to the necessary support services. The position requires a strong understanding of NCAA regulations and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all student-athletes. The Tutorial Coordinator will be expected to evaluate the effectiveness of tutoring services and adjust as needed to enhance the academic experience for student athletes. This role is integral to the mission of Alabama State University Athletics department, which aims to promote academic excellence alongside athletic achievement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates tutors. Creates tutoring schedules and coordinates administrative functions related to tutor payroll. Provides consistent and frequent verbal and written communication to the academic staff and coaches regarding the academic progress of assigned student-athletes. Works with academic advisors to review student-athlete class scheduling, degree plans, academic progress, and schedule necessary tutorial services. Conducts tutor training throughout the semester to assist with the development of all tutors. Coordinates the evaluation of the student-athlete success and tutors. Maintains tutor training materials and tutor manual consistent with Alabama State University Athletics and NCAA rules and regulations. Provide communication and programming regarding student-athletes with education-impacting disabilities. Work closely with the athletic advisor to coordinate and implement individualized academic plans for designated student-athletes. Assists with recruiting presentations when necessary. Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, two years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience and have working knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations. The work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, with additional hours on weekends and evenings as needed to accommodate the demands of the position and the student-athletes’ schedules.
