The Completion Coach at Stillman College plays a vital role in supporting students on their path to degree completion by providing targeted, student-centered guidance and support. The Coach works closely with students to help them overcome academic and personal barriers, develop clear educational plans, and stay on track for graduation. The Completion Coach also serves as an instructor for the Stillman Transition Initiative (STI) course and as an academic advisor, guiding students from entry through completion with a focus on persistence, retention, and timely graduation.
Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Provide proactive, individualized coaching to a caseload of students to support academic, social, and personal development toward degree completion.
Serve as an academic advisor, assisting students with course selection, degree planning, academic policies, and registration.
Monitor student progress through regular meetings, academic alerts, and tracking systems.
Help students develop effective study strategies, time management skills, and academic goals.
Refer students to campus resources including tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and career services as needed.
Teach one or more sections of the STI (Stillman Transition Initiative) course each academic year, focused on college readiness, engagement, and academic success.
Support first-year experience and orientation programming to ensure a strong foundation for new students.
Maintain accurate documentation of student interactions, academic advising records, and individualized success plans.
Identify and intervene with at-risk students in collaboration with faculty and staff.
Process department-related payables, ensuring timely submission of invoices, purchases, and reimbursements.
Assist with the development and implementation of retention and completion strategies, workshops, and campus outreach.
Use data and analytics to monitor student outcomes, identify trends, and adjust support strategies accordingly.
Engage in professional development and contribute to institutional student success goals.
Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, Education, or a related field preferred.
1-3 years of experience in academic advising, coaching, or student support services, preferably in higher education.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to build rapport with students and work collaboratively across departments.
Knowledge of student information systems, academic planning tools, and retention software is preferred.
Preferred Skills
Experience teaching or coordinating first-year or college success courses.
Familiarity with best practices in student persistence and degree completion.
Ability to analyze student data and use it to guide interventions and strategies.
