Retail Job Coach/Individualized Support Provider Futures Incorp 384 Main Street, Berlin, CT 06037

Position Summary:

The Retail Job Coach/Idividualized Support Provider is responsible for providing individualized support and coaching to individuals with disabilities as they engage in meaningful employment within a retail gift store environment. This dual-role position combines the responsibilities of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) with those of a retail team member, ensuring both the success of the individual and the smooth operation of the store.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide direct, on-the-job support to individuals with disabilities, helping them perform retail tasks such as stocking, customer service, merchandising, and operating the register. Promote independence and skill-building through consistent coaching, modeling, and encouragement. Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment for all team members. Monitor and document individual progress, challenges, and achievements in accordance with program requirements. Communicate regularly with program staff, supervisors, and families to coordinate support and address concerns. Assist with transportation needs or travel training as outlined in individual service plans. Support store operations by participating in daily retail tasks as needed. Uphold all organizational policies, procedures, and standards of conduct. Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or coursework in human services, education, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 1 year experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a DSP role preferred. Retail experience is a plus. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Must meet all state and organizational requirements for DSPs, including background checks and training. Reliable transportation and willingness to assist with travel-related support.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and reaching. Must be able to assist individuals with mobility or physical support needs as required.

Work Environment:

Retail store setting (3 different locations in Berlin, New Britain and West Hartford) with frequent interaction with customers, staff, and program participants.
