Position Purpose:

As an SEL Specialist, you will play a key role in developing and implementing a strong Tier I SEL program, while also supporting the school community with Tier II and select Tier III interventions for students who require additional support in building their social-emotional skills. This work will be done in close collaboration with school staff, ensuring SEL is seamlessly integrated into the broader learning environment. You will help create opportunities for students to learn, practice, and apply social-emotional skills within academic and social settings. Through this work, you will contribute to a positive school climate by supporting staff and empowering students to develop essential SEL skills—including Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making. While the position reports directly to the Director of SEL and OFCP, the SEL Specialist works day-to-day under the leadership of the building principal to ensure alignment with school goals and climate priorities.

Essential Functions:

Under general supervision, coordinate social-emotional learning (SEL) supports for students, as well as support staff. Provide academic and social-emotional learning instruction throughout the school day, giving students the opportunity to learn and practice SEL skills alongside academics. Directly teach social and emotional skills, emotion regulation strategies, and conflict resolution skills to individual students and small groups. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff. Assist site staff with the identification of students who need additional SEL support. Provide Tier II and/or select Tier III SEL skill development interventions to support staff within the building. Maintain professional practice and development by staying current with emerging approaches to improving SEL for students, staff, and families. Gather, track, and analyze data to monitor student progress toward goals. Work independently, with minimal supervision and guidance, in performing all assigned responsibilities efficiently and accurately. Engage in ongoing professional development and stay current with SEL research and best practices for classroom implementation. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to understand student needs. As needed, meet with parents, counselors, and agency representatives regarding student opportunities for improvement.

Requirements:

BA/BS degree or equivalent working experience Knowledge of SEL and best practices. Ability to plan, organize, and work collaboratively with other teams. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive relationships. Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. Proficient in Google Workspace productivity tools: including Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets at minimum. Must be able to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms. Ability to develop and compile a variety of records and reports. Ability to collaborate with school behavorial technicians

Equipment & Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be competent in Google Workspace productivity tools and ability to learn and use computer software as necessary. Ability to use basic office equipment. Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements:

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
