JOB SUMMARY

Provides general employment and life skills enrichment training support for individuals with disabilities (IWDs) at BAC. Assists Transition Services (TS) program participants in the training rooms, work areas and at community worksites. Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The list of essential functions below is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this job. Other duties may be assigned based on business need. Provide individualized and group instruction to support participants in daily program activities, including life skills, recreation, and community integration. Implement and support participants’ individualized goals, behavior plans, and educational objectives. Teach scheduled classes, substitute as needed and provide instruction in basic education and enrichment skills. Promote communication, social interaction, and independence using evidence-based practices. Implement behavior plans and strategies to address participant needs. Conduct behavioral interventions to deescalate situations and report incidents promptly. Performs personal care tasks, including hands-on assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming, toileting, feeding, transitioning and ambulation. Monitor and accurately document participant progress, behaviors, incidents, goal training, and assessments in a timely manner. Complete required data entry for participant services, grant benchmarks, and billing processes. Assist in providing appropriate participant customizations and learning aids, when needed. Executes established course objectives and instructs basic education and enrichment skills; maintains safety of participants. Assists with course objectives and collaborates on lesson plans and other resource materials to ensure sequential programming. Transports program participants to and from training sites or offsite tour locations as required. Ability to handle physical aspects of job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of time. Attends staff meetings and in-service classes as required; serves on committees as assigned. Provides departmental assistance as needed (i.e., staff coverage, cafeteria supervision, arrival, dismissal, attendance, etc.). Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings for program participants as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED. Two or more years of experience in education and/or working with individuals with disabilities (IWD). An equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience may satisfy the above requirements. Must satisfy Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Level 2 background screening requirements. Must have first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications and eight hours of continuing competence units (CCU’s) as specified by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). May be required to have or obtain additional formal industry certification(s) based on area of assignment. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Experience working with IWD. Experienced in Behavioral Management. In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instruction for individuals and groups. Ability to learn to operate a computer using Microsoft Office Suite and applicable department/organization specific software. Ability to handle confidential employment information with tact and discretion. Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to provide appropriate interventions to support program participants maintaining acceptable program behaviors. Ability to organize work for timely completion. Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Depending on the functional area of assignment, tasks involve the routine performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 40 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. These requirements can be done with or without reasonable accommodation.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Tasks are regularly performed inside without exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, cold, rain, fumes). Generally, there will be incidental outside exposure; however, staff may be required to work outside or inside without air conditioning for limited time periods.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Some tasks require manual dexterity.
