Full Job Description Overview:

As the Vocational and Community Engagement Coordinator at FIL, you will play a key role in empowering residents to discover and pursue employment and volunteer opportunities that align with their interests and strengths. This position blends direct resident support with community outreach and strategic marketing efforts to build partnership that expand vocational pathways. You will promote FIL’s vocational mission to external partners, identify new placement opportunities, and develop storytelling strategies that highlight resident success. Your work will bridge the gap between residents and the wider community, ensuring meaningful engagement, economic empowerment, and greater visibility of FIL’s impact. Key Responsibilities

    Empower Resident Growth & Independence :

    Actively support and guide residents in their journey towards greater independence, tailoring your approach to each individual’s unique skills and level of autonomy. Evaluate individual’s background, skills and interests to match to potential job openings or training programs. Coach and prepare candidates for the interview and entry into the workforce. Monitor the resident’s progress and provide encouragement and motivation to succeed.

    • Explore and Leverage Vocational Rehabilitation Services Identify and build connections with Vocational Rehabilitation programs and other external service providers to expand resident access to job coaching, training resources, and long-term employment supports.
    • Outsourced Specialized Vocational Supports Assess when external partnerships are needed to supplement FIL’s internal capabilities, and coordinate with approved vendors or agencies to deliver targeted supports that address individual resident needs.
    • Cultivate Community & Employer Partnerships Build and sustain relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, and civic organizations to expand opportunities for FIL residents. Represent FIL at job fairs, networking events, and public forums.
    Job Analysis and Training :

    Create job analysis to determine the duties and requirements to make an effective job match. Match skill levels and job conditions to participant abilities and limitations. Maintain contact with the resident and employer to ensure a successful placement. Maintain quality and consistency of curriculum and materials for training. Schedule, logistic planning, and preparation for training including workshops and webinars with support from other departments. Facilitate career counseling, self-advocacy skills and career training rehabilitation needs and goals.

      Collaboration :

      Work closely with various departments to ensure a seamless integration of programs and services for our residents. Demonstrate an ability to communicate with various levels of an organization, including senior executives. Call on potential employers to explain the benefits of employing residents and possible training opportunities to FIL’s diverse workforce. Educate employers as to the participant’s abilities, aptitude, skills and knowledge as it relates to the job. Work with department case managers to move residents along a business path continuum and receive the support necessary for job placement and success.

        Documentation :

        Create and manage an online library of resources and tools to support learning goals and meet resident priorities. Assist with timely and accurate reports including spreadsheets, presentations and narratives.

          Organization :

          Participate in organizational planning and budgeting processes and manage the program budget. Arrange for employment interviews, attend job fairs and conduct special workshops, presentations, and group orientations, including training and outreach activities.

            Conflict Resolution :

            Utilize de-escalation skills to manage and resolve any conflicts or challenges that may arise among residents.

              Other Duties :

              Perform any other duties or operations as required to maintain workflow, meet schedules, and uphold FIL’s quality standards. This includes any special projects or assignments as directed by your supervisor. Skills and Competencies

                  Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to work harmoniously with various departments and stakeholders.

                    Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment, especially in challenging situations, and to take direction when needed.

                      Conflict Resolution :

                      Proven skills in de-escalation and conflict management, ensuring a peaceful and supportive environment for all residents. Assists with executive functioning, planning, decision making and social skills

                        Organizational Skills :

                        Ability to coordinate schedules, manage activities calendar, multiple tasks, and maintain detailed and accurate records.

                          Safety Awareness :

                          Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures, ensuring the well-being of residents and staff.

                            Adaptability :

                            Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and needs, always prioritizing the best interests of the residents and FIL.

                              Advocacy :

                              Commitment to supporting and advocating for the inclusion of all FIL residents and other vulnerable populations in the community. Physical Requirements

                                Mobility :

                                Ability to move freely around the facility and residents’ homes, including standing, walking, bending, and sitting for extended periods.

                                  Lifting :

                                  Capability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds, such as groceries, supplies, or personal items of residents.

                                    Transportation :

                                    Ability to safely operate a vehicle, assisting residents in getting in and out when providing transportation.

                                      Manual Dexterity :

                                      Proficiency in tasks that require hand-eye coordination, such as assisting residents with chores or handling documentation.

                                        Vision :

                                        Close visual acuity to monitor residents, read documents, and use a computer. Ability to adjust focus and discern colors.

                                          Hearing :

                                          Ability to hear and understand spoken information from residents, colleagues, and families, including in situations with background noise.

                                            Stamina :

                                            Physical endurance to complete a full shift, which may include various physical activities and tasks.

                                              Environmental Tolerance :

                                              Ability to work in varied environmental conditions, such as different temperatures or noise levels, especially when visiting residents’ homes or facilitating outdoor activities. Work Environment

                                                Resident Clubhouse :

                                                Controlled indoor setting for group activities, meetings, and trainings with moderate noise levels.

                                                  Residents’ Homes:

                                                  Varied environments based on individual living conditions, requiring respect for personal spaces and potential interactions with household pets.

                                                    Community Outings :

                                                    Diverse settings ranging from quiet parks to bustling shopping centers, with exposure to outdoor elements and varying noise levels. Qualifications Required Education and Experience

                                                      Education :

                                                      Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitation, Social Work, Business or a related field. Relevant work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis in lieu of degree.

                                                        Experience :

                                                        Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory role. Minimum five (5) years of experience in Career Coaching/Counseling or as a Guidance Counselor.

                                                          Licensure :

                                                          Valid Driver’s License and Proof of Automobile Insurance.

                                                            Background :

                                                            Must successfully pass all background checks and MVR (Motor Vehicle Report). Preferred Education and Experience

                                                                Certification in Career Development Facilitation (CDF)

                                                                  First Aid:

                                                                  CPR/First Aid certification. Travel Requirements
