Job/Task Functions Qualified applicants for this position will be in active recovery of substance use with demonstrated stability for a minimum of two years. The Recovery Peer Specialist will provide direct input from a consumer’s perspective regarding the transformation of community services; serves as a sounding board for individuals issues and concerns. The Recovery Peer Specialist will role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills. Duties and responsibilities Attends and participates in community forums dealing with substance abuse and mental health issues and concerns. Speaks to individuals regarding services received and provides feedback to both the department and providers. Assist providers in developing role recovery objectives that meet individual progress towards their goals. Will discuss with clients their targeted needs for improvement to incorporate in the service plan and delivery. Engages clients to talk about their experiences to promote understanding of life experiences and its effect on functioning and to promote hope for recovery. Develops a good rapport with people in the criminal justice system who have alcohol, addiction, mental health, and/or other behavioral/emotional difficulties. Assists to enroll people for services provided by community behavioral health providers. Assist other team members to identify program environments that are conductive to recovery, lending their unique insight into mental illness and what makes recovery possible. Facilitates peer groups for problem solving, communication skills development, and personal growth. Encourages positive life experiences, training, certification, and/or education. Assists in completing and maintaining a personal recovery plan which includes identified person-centered strengths, needs, abilities, and goals, interventions to assist the person served in reaching these goals and progress made toward these goals. Attend case reviews and team meetings as requested to promote and support insight into recovery. Provides community liaison services as assigned by supervisor. Must maintain appropriate boundaries in the workplace and to work professionally (ethically), especially regarding confidentiality. Check company email while on duty, responding timely, appropriately, and professionally, to communicate internally and externally. Interact professionally with residents, co-workers, community partners, and vendors. Must be able to maintain tact and professionalism. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
