JOB DESCRIPTION JOB GOAL
The employee will serve as Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) program manager and strategist. The day-to-day operational responsibilities of this role will include sustaining career academies, data coaching, and academy team and progress monitoring. The College and Career Advisor will also manage all aspects of Career Development for SLC students, act as the SLC business liaison, and perform other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution and substantial depth and breadth of expertise in a target industry, obtained through completion of at least 3 years of experience within that industry. Prior experience as an academic and/or career advisor may substitute for industry experience on a year-for-year basis. Valid Florida Driver’s License. Successful school-based experience preferred. Other qualifications as deemed necessary.

Ability to effectively communicate and use appropriate language and accompanying techniques on a one-to-one basis, as well as in groups. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop long and short range goals for specific programs and services relevant to the Smaller Learning Communities Initiative. Ensure that all students in the SLC effort understand the different programs of study offered. Assist students in making the transition from high school to college and career, in career exploration, the creation and update of their ePEP, applying to college/technical school, obtain a job, secure internships/job shadows and other student-centered advisement directed toward future success. Work with parents and students in the selection of rigorous coursework, such as AP, AICE or IB, enabling the students to obtain a strong academic foundation during high school which will lead to postsecondary success. Provide coaching and professional development for staff on student advisories. Site leader responsible for maintaining appropriate data and documentation of program effectiveness for stakeholders including Industry Certification testing and reporting. Analyze and utilize assessment data to improve curricula and student performance. Assist guidance staff in assuring students are appropriately grouped and scheduled for instruction that supports effective SLC practices. Conduct annual climate surveys of parents, students and staff and disseminate results to stakeholders. Facilitate post-secondary college and career opportunities for the Take Stock in Children scholarship recipients, minority students, and all other SLC participants. Use appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment and guide individuals and groups to task accomplishment. Develop opportunities for parent involvement. Promote remediation opportunities for all high school students. Act as a resource in the sustainability of career academies and other smaller learning communities’ activities. Assist in the integration of the smaller learning communities themes with the district and state curriculum standards, benchmarks and frameworks. Coach teachers in the development and implementation of integrated curriculum and instruction involving the career pathway and academic courses. Work with teachers in the development of instructional activities that incorporate high academic standards. Provide advocacy and support for the smaller learning communities’ concept. Plan and conduct customized teacher training opportunities for smaller learning communities’ staff. Act as the liaison between the smaller learning communities and the business community through the establishment and growth of business advisory councils. Prepare all required reports and maintains all appropriate records. Work to ensure that SLCs are supported through policies and practices including scheduling, staffing, student assignment, professional and data collection. Align the SLC efforts with School Improvement Plan, District initiatives and other school programs to ensure sustainability. Ensure the proposed professional development activities provide skill development in noteworthy SLC practices (especially instructional practices) and support staff as they implement these practices. Communicate with parents, students, and other community members to explain how SLCs can contribute to improving student achievement. Target, track and facilitate success for minority and gifted students toward post-secondary opportunities. Complete reports timely and accurately. Promote and support professional growth for self and others. Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of the District and the high school smaller learning communities/career academies. Use appropriate styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment and facilitate task accomplishment. Facilitate problem solving by individuals or groups. Disseminate results to inform all partners of decision making process and outcomes. Model appropriate educational practices. Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member. Model and maintains high ethical standards. Represent the district in a positive and professional manner. Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities. Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events. Follow federal and state laws as well as School Board policies, rules and regulations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
