Job Summary:

 The Career Coach I/Experiential Learning Coordinator provides individualized and group career coaching to support academic major alignment, career exploration, and work-based learning opportunities. Serving students across all four Colleges of Bethune-Cookman University, the Career Coach develops and delivers impactful programming to enhance student awareness of career pathways, foster social mobility, and ensure equitable access to career resources and experiences. The role also supports experiential learning, including oversight of on-campus student employment work aid program.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Career Development Process & Strategies:

Administer and interpret career assessments to help students identify career interests, values, and skills (e.g., Focus 2, O•NET).
Provide individual and group career coaching to students and alumni.
Lead workshops, seminars, and presentations focused on career readiness topics.
Assist students in developing personalized career action plans that align with their academic and professional goals.
Conduct outreach and engagement initiatives to ensure widespread student participation in career services.

Career Management Components:

Advise students on choosing majors and exploring professional career paths.
Support students in career transitions, job searching, and personal development, impacting work performance.
Offer coaching on workplace topics including conflict resolution, performance management, and work-life balance.
Experiential Learning and Internships
Serve as a primary contact for coordinating experiential learning opportunities, including internships, cooperative education, and other work-based learning experiences.
Manage the university’s on-campus student employment program (Work Aid), providing oversight of Handshake position posting, student placement, supervisor support, and compliance tracking.
Collaborate with campus departments, faculty, and external employers to expand access to internships and other experiential learning opportunities.
Educate students on the value of hands-on experience, connecting classroom learning to career pathways.
Maintain accurate records of experiential learning participation and provide reports on student engagement and outcomes.

Organizational Strategies:

Maintain ongoing communication with students to track progress toward career goals.
Collect and analyze data to evaluate service effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
Regularly update staff and stakeholders on student needs and outcomes.
Enhance engagement through various service formats, including appointments, drop-ins, workshops, and digital resources.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Proficient in time management and detail orientation.
Technological proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, virtual conferencing, and database systems.
Flexibility and reliability in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:
Required:

Bachelor’s Degree.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling, psychology, or related field, plus one year of relevant experience (including graduate assistantships).

Preferred Competencies:

Experience in career services programming and delivery.
Familiarity with experiential learning programs and student employment coordination.
Skilled in using assessment tools, digital career platforms, and social media for student engagement.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with students, staff, and employers.
Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.

Physical Requirements:

Requires some physical effort, i.e., standing and walking, frequent light lifting (5-25 lbs.); manual dexterity in the operation of office equipment; extensive periods of time at a keyboard; occasional hours outside the normal University schedule.
