Job Details:

The vision and mission of the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) are to equip and empower students and alumni to thrive in the lifelong process of career and professional development by providing customized, innovative, and comprehensive career education and resources. The Associate Director is one of a team of career development professionals housed in the Center for Career and Professional Development, a unit in the Division of Student Affairs. The Center for Career and Professional Development is a centralized center that serves 11 of Mercer’s 12 colleges/schools. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Associate Director will contribute to the strategic management of the Career Center, supporting the priorities of embedded career development and positive career outcomes for all Mercerians. The position will provide individualized career consulting, primarily to students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, as well as those in other Mercer colleges and schools, as needed. Additionally, this position will be responsible for building strong campus and employer relationships.

Responsibilities:
Career Consultation:

Deliver career consultation to students and alumni via individual and group career consultations focused on exploration, decision-making, and securing internships or jobs, while promoting experiential learning and career readiness resources.

Campus Relations:

Build and sustain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and departments across the university to advance students’ career readiness through strategic outreach, training, and engagement. Promote a campus-wide career-focused culture by delivering presentations focused on integrating career content into curricular and co-curricular experiences.

Employer Relations:

Serve as a liaison for visiting employers, coordinating recruitment visits, and assisting with career expo employer engagement. Develop targeted outreach and communications to engage employers in campus recruitment and career center partnerships.

Strategic Planning, Data, and Assessment:

Manage and report student engagement data for the supplemental career platforms, career education learning outcomes, campus community collaboration, and student appointment satisfaction. Leverage data and assessment results in strategic planning for the Center, purposefully including the essential role of the campus community in students’ career readiness and success.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in higher education, business, HR, interdisciplinary field, or a related area of study. 3 years of relevant experience working directly with and supporting university students

Preferred Qualifications:

5 years of relevant experience preferred. A certification, micro-credential, or significant training hours related to coaching, counseling, career development or readiness, human resources, or other topics relevant to higher education or career center operations is preferred. (Candidates who do not possess a relevant micro-credential or training will be supported and strongly encouraged to complete a micro-credential and/or focused training within the first two years of employment.)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong advising, counseling, consulting, guidance, and/or teaching abilities. Strength in developing and sustaining professional relationships. Knowledge of traditional undergraduate student development, career development and exploration, decision-making, job search strategies, and/or student success factors. Advanced presentation and communication skills for effectively engaging audiences of 5-75 in-person or via teleconference.
