School Climate Specialist

REPORTS TO

Director of Student and Family Support

JOB GOAL

The School Climate Specialist advises and coordinates services to support the culture and climate needs of the district and school community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree or higher in education, social work, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Five years of successful work experience in an educational setting.
Must possess a current certification from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) or be certification eligible.
Experience in education, counseling, or social work.
Knowledge and experience in effectively implementing evidence-based frameworks to improve school and classroom climate.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and organizational skills.
Possesses the technology skills necessary to perform job duties and is proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Works independently and exercises professional judgment in decision-making.
Works successfully under pressure to adhere to schedules and deadlines.
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
Possesses personal characteristics and professional competencies to work successfully with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the public.
Knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL) and conflict resolution strategies.
Ability to assess school environments and use data to inform decision-making.
Understanding diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.

DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyze attendance data to identify patterns of chronic absenteeism and at-risk students.
Conduct root-cause analyses to understand the social, emotional, and logistical barriers preventing student attendance.
Collaborate with attendance teams, social workers, and counselors to develop individualized support plans.
Lead school-wide efforts to integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into daily instruction and routines.
Collaborates with school counselors, psychologists, and community agencies to coordinate mental health services.
Identify and support students exhibiting signs of emotional distress, anxiety, trauma, or depression.
Train staff in de-escalation techniques and culturally responsive behavior management.
Act as a liaison between the school and families.
Facilitate partnerships with community mental health providers, attendance officers, and youth organizations.
Work closely with the district social workers to implement social-emotional/mental health support and plans and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff to enhance trauma-informed practices and mental health awareness skills.
Plan, schedule, and conduct professional development and learning opportunities for staff and families in various settings, including school sites and district locations.
Collaborate with district and site-level teams to develop short and long-term school climate and culture goals.
Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in social-emotional learning, restorative practices, mental health first aid, cultural responsiveness, school climate and culture, and behavior management strategies.
Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with the profession’s decorum.

Travel:

Statewide travel is required.
210 workday schedule
