II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
Work primarily on high school campuses to provide career coaching services to students in choosing a career pathway, developing and implementing a career plan, and applying for dual enrollment in a program of study at a post-secondary institution. Market career coaching services to students, school personnel, parents and other relevant stakeholders. Build relationships with secondary, postsecondary and business and industry key stakeholders.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university. Experience preferred in working with high school students. Must have record keeping/data collection skills. Must be able to work flexible hours during the school day. Experience or combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a professional appearance. Project a professional attitude toward students, faculty & staff. Adhere to all APSB policies. Maintain documentation on all contacts (students, parents, teachers, post-secondary representatives, business & industry professionals, etc.…) using monthly report form, contact sheets, sign-in sheets, and notes. Submit all reports in a timely manner. Adheres to all laws pertaining to disclosure of student records. Work with the counselors at local high schools to acquire student referrals. Develop a caseload of students who need of career coaching services. Create a file on each student to include their transcript, standardized test scores and all contacts with the student, parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators. Meet with seniors to explain the role of the career coach and work on developing an individual career plan. Develop a relationship with the students, parents, and teachers. Meet with students periodically, either individually or in small groups, to discuss their career goals, attendance, academic performance or any concerns they may have. Refer students to the Guidance Counselor for academic or personal needs beyond the services provided by the Career Coach. Monitor grades, behavior and attendance of all students in the case load and/or dual enrolled to assist each student in adhering to college policy for adding/dropping classes, etc. Continue to monitor students and document their progress so they will be on track for entering postsecondary education and training. Assist students in the area of career pathways, dual enrollment and entering postsecondary institutions as a full-time student, i.e. filling out college applications, financial aid forms, etc. Develop connections and coordinate community outreach programs that bring the resources of the community to the student. Develop connections and coordinate employment outreach programs that enable students to explore and experience employment opportunities/internships. Coordinate career exploration opportunities for students in all grade levels. Promote articulation of secondary to postsecondary courses. Assist with applications to universities, colleges, and technical schools. Provide information about the financial aid application process and TOPS to students and parents. Coordinate financial aid workshops for parents with Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid (LOSFA) presentation. Make appointments with parents for Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) completion. Coordinate career spotlight sessions throughout the year. Schedule school, college, and military visits throughout the year. Coordinate Career and Technical Education (CTE) related field trips. Assist students with ACT registration and give preparatory resources. Attend senior prep day, open house, and graduation, and career fairs. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external stakeholders. Identifies opportunities and recommend methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments and to ensure continuity of service. Supports new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
